<div>De Maastrichtse kunstschilder Collin van der Sluijs (@collinvandersluijs) verfraaide de Hasseltse stationsbuurt met deze kleurrijke muurschildering van een ekster, een nieuwsgierige en slimme maar soms ook geniepig stelende vogel. Vogels zijn een vaak terugkerend thema in van der Sluijs' verhalende en figuratieve kunst, die zijn oorsprong vindt in de street art scene waar hij als tiener al deel van uitmaakte.&nbsp;<br>De schilder koos bij dit werk bewust voor een rustige, blauwe achtergrond als contrast met de vaak chaotische drukte rondom het station.&nbsp;<br><br>Dit project werd mede mogelijk gemaakt door Sana (@streetandgraphicart) in het kader van het euroregionale street art project 'Love letters from the future' waaraan de MAHHL-steden Maastricht, Aken, Hasselt, Heerlen en Luik meewerken.&nbsp;<br><br>The Maastricht based painter Collin van der Sluijs (@collinvandersluijs) embellished the Hasselt station area with this colorful mural of a magpie, a curious and clever but sometimes sneaky thieving bird. Birds are a recurring theme in van der Sluijs' narrative and figurative art, which originated in the streetart scene of which he was already a part as a teenager.&nbsp;<br>In this work the painter deliberately chose a calm, blue background as a contrast to the often chaotic bustle around the station.<br><br>This project was made possible by Sana (@streetandgraphicart) in the context of the Euroregional streetart project 'Love letters from the future' in which the MAHHL-cities Maastricht, Aken, Hasselt, Heerlen en Luik participate.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Deze monumentale mural van de Australische graffiti artiest Smug (@smugone) is met zijn 450 m² het grootste street art kunstwerk in Hasselt. Sam Bates, zoals Smug in het dagelijks leven heet, leverde een waar huzarenstukje af door enkel gebruik te maken van spuitbussen en hiermee een kunstwerk af te leveren dat zo gedetailleerd is dat het wel een foto lijkt. Leuk detail: in het glasraam aan de rechterzijde van de jonge vrouw zie je de hazelnoot, het symbool van Hasselt.<br><br>This monumental mural by the Australian graffiti artist Smug (@smugone) is with its 450 m²&nbsp; the largest piece of streetart in Hasselt. Sam Bates, as Smug is called in everyday life, delivered a true feat by using only spray cans to deliver a work of art that is do detailed that it looks like a photograph. <div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Quartier bleu in Hasselt heeft er een nieuw street art kunstwerk bij! Dit keer is het de beurt aan de getalenteerde Roberto Ciredz, een Italiaanse genomineerden street art kunstenaar. Het werk is gemaakt in samenwerking met kunstenaarscollectief Treepack en is te bewonderen op de gevels van vernieuwd XIOR- studentencomplex in de Armand Hertzstraat te Hasselt.</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>De gigantische muurschildering van Ciredz is een prachtige abstracte creatie die zijn inspiratie haalt uit water, natuur en ijslandschappen. Het kunstwerk <em>‘Flood’</em> van Ciredz is gebaseerd op het vele water van de buurt Quartier bleu. Het kleurenpalet dat hij gebruikt heeft, is typerend voor zijn werk en varieert tussen zachte en levendige blauwe kleuren, waardoor het werk een rustgevende uitstraling heeft. De combinatie van deze kleuren en de vloeiende kleurvlakken die Ciredz heeft gebruikt, roepen het gevoel op alsof je je in een serene, onderwaterwereld bevindt.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Bovendien is niet alleen een lust voor het oog, maar het brengt ook een belangrijke boodschap over. De kunstenaar wil mensen bewust maken van de kwetsbaarheid van onze planeet en het belang van het behoud van onze natuurlijke hulpbronnen. <div>Dzia (@dzia) is wereldwijd bekend voor zijn unieke dierengraffiti. In Hasselt kun je momenteel drie werken van hem gaan bewonderen.&nbsp;<br>Deze sierlijke vogel is geschilderd op de zijgevel van café Cambrinus, één van de laatste authentieke cafés van Hasselt. &nbsp;<br><br>Dzia (@dzia) is well known for his unique animal graffiti. You can find three works from his hand in Hasselt.<br>This bird is painted on the side wall of the local Cambrinus pub.</div>

Eva Lynen

<div>De Belgische illustratrice Eva Lynen maakte dit kleurrijke werk op doek ter ere van 1OO jaar Smeets, een Hasseltse graanjenever. Tussen de illustraties kan je meerdere verwijzingen naar de Hasseltse jenevercultuur, met onder meer de jaarlijkse Jeneverfeesten, terugvinden. Het doek hangt bovendien op een ideale locatie: tegenover het Jenevermuseum.<br>&nbsp;</div><div>The Belgian illustrator Eva Lynen made this colorful work on canvas in honor of 100 years Smeets, a Hasselt grained jenever. Between the illustrations you can find several references to the Hasselt jenever culture, including the annual Jenever festivities. Moreover, the canvas hangs in a ideal location: opposite the Jenever Museum.</div>

<div><strong>Bakkerij Cupers te Sint-Lambrechts-Herk pakt sinds kort uit met een monumentale muurschildering die letterlijk en figuurlijk hun ambacht in de verf zet. Sinds 1976 voorzien zij vers brood en patisserie volgens de authentieke recepten van hun grootouders. De broers en bakkers, Christophe en Jim, zetten de traditie van hun vader Paul verder en stapten samen in zee met kunstcollectief Treepack om de bakkerij te voorzien van een prachtige muurschildering.<br></strong><br></div><div>“Het idee om een muurschildering voor onze bakkerij te laten maken borrelt al enkele jaren. We zien steeds meer en meer murals verschijnen overal ter wereld. Dus leek het ons wel leuk om zelf ook zo'n eyecatcher te hebben voor onze zaak. Door met onze oud-buurman en mural artiest Jan Poncelet te brainstormen werd dit idee tastbaar. Een eerste gesprek resulteerde al snel in een krachtig ontwerp van Jan dat mooi inspeelt op de visie van bakkerij Cupers.” Aldus eigenaar Christophe Cupers.<br><br></div><div>“We wilden graag een mural gerelateerd aan de bakkerij, waarmee we letterlijk en figuurlijk onze ambacht in de verf konden zetten. Zo creëerde&nbsp; Jan Poncelet in dit mooie ontwerp, met allerlei attributen die rechtstreeks uit onze bakkerij komen. <div>As an artist with a background in graffiti, Solo Cink discovered the art of calligraphy whilst travelling. Nowadays, he is seen to create a geometrical body of work that is steeped in history, filled with symbolism and all things sacred. In a kind of organised chaos, he revisits the letter by creating a succession of shapes and contours with a balanced flow. Never abstract, his output is invariably fraught with meaning.<br>Solo Cink now also is tattooing his calligraphic work and&nbsp; geomatric shapes in his tattoo shop in Brussels.&nbsp;</div>

<div>At a very young age, Tuzq started working with spraycans. He soon discovered his talent, which he took out on the streets, searching for his own personal style. Today he can create anything you ask him. This artist is still a young talent compared to the big guns, but he’s already on par with them in terms of quality and realism. His depictions of animals and nature sceneries are breathtaking, not to mention the technical skill and detail he puts into his work. Tuzq's work continues to evolve in many interesting ways, so keep an eye on him!<br><br></div>

HELL'O

<div>Hell'O is a duo of Belgian artists, Jérôme Meynen and Antoine Detaille. Coming from the world of grafitti, they left behind the lettering and aerosol bombs for paper, painting, drawing with ink and installations.<br>Together, the two artists evolve in a rich and intiguing graphic universe, which develops unceasingly, multiplying the references. Strange animals, small characters and assexual creatures recall the fantastic world of fairy tales and fables. Their compositions evoke a oneiric and surrealist universe, mysterious and disturbing, through subjects such as cruelty, optimism, failure, hope and death.<br>The work of this duo of artists have been the subject of more than twnety solo exhibitions and about thirty group exhibitions, in Spain, Belgium, the United States, France and China, among others.</div>

KBTR

<div>KBTR is a graffiti-character mostly seen on the streets and from a train window. He is known for his red hat and his personality with a lot of different appearances and expressions. He is also nicknamed 'De Utrechtse Kabouter' after the city Utrecht where he first appeared and still can be seen the most. He also appears everywhere around, so in that case the name (KaBouTeR) after the suspected makers is more fitting.&nbsp;</div>

Piet Rodriguez

<div>Self-taught, having played all his life pencils, Piet Rodriguez has discovered a passion for painting in 2012. After studying hotel and restaurant, he turned to advertising which attracted his attention because of the creativity.&nbsp;<br>Towards the end of his studies, an amateur painting exhibition gave him the urge to paint on canvas. It was love at first sight.&nbsp;<br>He then launched into realistic portraits and other compositions, all between surrealism and symbolism. Working mainly black and white, light becomes the key to bring out the soul of the subjects he paints.<br>At the end of 2015, the collective Propaganza introduced him to spraypainting&nbsp; and the world of street art. It is a new technique and a new world in which he intends to distinguish himself.</div>

Alex Face

<div>Patcharapol Tangruen, also known as Alex Face, is a well-known and influential graffiti artist in
<br>Thailand.Alex studied architecture and earned a Bachelor’s Degree at the Department of Fine
<br>&amp; Applied Arts. An interest in architecture led Alex Face to explore and wander the streets and
<br>alleys of Bangkok for abandoned buildings, buildings that he eventually used as a canvas to
<br>develop his street art and where he could express himself. He then created Alex Face, a
<br>character with an aged, disillusioned child’s face wearing animal costumes. Through his graffiti,
<br>Alex Face especially attempts to create a link with the urban population, the underprivileged of
<br>Bangkok and the provinces.</div>

<div>Wall painted April 2018 for Street Art Festival &amp; Kwartier Kreatief<br>Ben Peeters (UCON) maakt ook deel uit van Hertkore. Zijn organische vormentaal en krachtige kleuren spreken meteen aan en zijn figuren lenen zich ook tot houtsculpturen. Hiermee brengt hij een extra dimensie in zijn werk.<br><br>Ben Peeters (UCON) is also a member of Hertkore. His organic design language and powerful colours are instantly appealing, and his characters are also brought to life in wood sculptures. Thus, he adds an additional dimension to his work.</div>

Mr Cenz

<div><strong>Mr Cenz</strong> has been scribbling on surfaces since 1988 when he first discovered hip-hop culture and graffiti art. He soon became obsessed with this new and exciting art form and after a few brushes with the law he decided to find ways of developing his skills legally. Since his first commissioned mural at 11yrs old he has continued progressing and experimenting with his art through college and University. This has led to a career as a professional graffiti artist with several solo shows and high profile commissions internationally.&nbsp;</div><div>His distinctive work can currently be seen all over the streets of the world, especially in his hometown of London. It features layers of intricate and flowing letterforms, shapes and line work, which are abstracted in a unique and aesthetically pleasing way. His style is full of funk and movement and fuses different skills together such as photorealism, illustration and graffiti letterforms. His work is open to individual interpretation and has been described as “surrealist graffiti art for the soul”. He works hard to make sure each piece he creates is very individual and distinctive in its quality. His influences range from the old school graffiti artists that inspired him as a kid such as Dondi and Mode 2 to abstract expressionist painters like Paul Klee and Roger Hilton.&nbsp;</div><div>His new work focuses on female faces, which he distorts in his trademark style. He works from portrait and fashion photographs to create unique interpretations of strong and spiritual women, which are abstracted in a spontaneous and freestyle way to create interesting and mysterious compositions. Theses pieces are a melting pot of all the different influences and technical skills he has acquired over the years.&nbsp;<br><br></div>

Tape Over

<div>Tapeart created by TAPE OVER Berlin. They put their work on the old town hall at Groenplein, Hasselt.<br>Tape Over is an international tape art crew established in Berlin since 2011. Their roots are in Berlin’s subcultural electro scene. In fact, they originally started doing their tape art in the city‘s vibrant electro clubs. This is their creative playground.</div><div>The tape art style includes elements of street art as well as urban art, and is characterized by its versatility and fine detail. In addition, their art reflects what inspires them most: organic forms, abstract shapes, plain design, as well as visual statements.&nbsp;</div><div>Each artwork is a unique interpretation of their perception. They also involve the location itself to create special impact as well as to intensify the overall expression.</div><div>Fundamentally, they love to experiment. A new creation is always based on passion &amp; creativity – this is tape overs understanding of art.</div>

He was inspired by famous comic heroes of the time. Especially his mothers portrait drawings were essential for his artistic drive.<br>Around 1998, Sokar uno first came in touch with the local graffiti-scene which provided him access to new artistic expressions. The new explored possibilities strengthened his urge of developing a differenciated style. Besides an apprenticeship to become an engeneering draughtsman, a vocational baccalaureate diploma in designing and helping the restoration of paintings, all of Sokar uno`s artwork today is exclusively based on his autodidactic working methods. Using spraycans, paint roller or brushes, his artwork can be found in galleries, on canvas, on walls and objects in urban space.<br>The basis of his artwork are illustrative-realistic representations of human beings and their body shapes which he breaks into fragments and brings them back together in bustlike pieces.&nbsp;</div>

Born to an account and a stay at home mum, nothing in his family environment predestined him to an artistic carrier. Starting age 5 however, he taught himself how to draw by copying the art of Jack Kirby, the famous American comic illustrator.</div><div>These American comic books would influence him forever. From then on, he kept on drawing, a bit by boredom too, suburban life not having many activities to offer and trips to exciting Paris, ‘where everything happens’, costing a bit too much.</div><div>The violence and blocked horizon of these rough neighborhoods weren’t a myth. In 1986, the tragic loss of his father, whom he felt close to, marked his childhood and logically his work later on.<br>One day, as he observed the technics of two graffiti writers, Mode2 and Colt, during the festival ’89 youth for equality’, a young Pro had a revelation and decided to dedicate his life to painting.</div><div>In 1991, he stole his first classic, Spray Can Art (Graffiti’s Holy Bible) and instantly got contaminated, Krylon running through his veins ever since. Working letters and styles to extract their fullest potential became his priority. School was quickly replaced by days spent mastering his craft on walls and any type of visible formats. He is turned down by academic artistic education because of his ‘general bad grades”.</div><div>In 1996, he joins the ranks of the infamous and notorious Grim Team. The following year, rechristened Pro176, he takes part in the foundation of the Ultra Boys International. With Gold Jabe, Sozyone, Kool Func 88, Byz, Shake and Recto, the crew claims a new form of Graffiti, digging its aesthetic in Marvel comic books, futuristic abstract mathematics, alphabetical constructivism and the brutality of refined Picassonic facial cubism. A sort of pure Graffiti ‘Avant-garde’, that ignores all other forms of Graffiti, judged worthless.</div><div>In 2010, Pro becomes a member of the RTZ (Return to Zero) from Berlin in Germany, another crew of European revolutionaries famous for their futuristic letters.</div><div>Music, especially Rap, another major influence in his life will lead him from 1992 to 2010 to collaborate on many projects with different artists, producing three albums (“Le Cri des Briques”, “Vocabulaire Granit” and “Galactick”) and performing over 500 times on stage, both in France and Internationally, even at prestigious venues such as the mythical Olympia in Paris.</div><div>He claims a style inspired by Jack Kirby’s universe, where the eternal philosophical battle of good versus evil takes place amidst universes filled with infinite galaxies and stars, crowded by heroes and super villains. “After all, the universe is as wide as the creatures that must inhabit it”. An early movie enthusiast, huge futuristic machines and spaceships coming straight out of a sci-fi flick often appear in his backgrounds. His letters, designed to the extreme, perfectly interlock with these astro-galactic universes, just as the anatomic lines of his characters blend with the vivid color pallet he uses in his work.</div><div>Recently, large abstract and colorful figures cut out with black; have started appearing in his compositions, resembling comic book bubbles where an eye, or many, seems to observe you. “The all seeing eye… that can also deceive us” on the hidden meaning of things, their true significance. All is left to the interpretation… In 2009, fed up with painting canvases ‘against his apartment entrance door’, he meets Seen while looking for a studio. The contact instantly feels natural with the “Godfather of Graffiti” and a collaboration with Seen Studios is quickly on the way. It is a symbolic winkto his past, since Seen’s chapter in Spraycan Art had a strong impact on his early years as a writer. 20 years later, both artists are working side by side! With him, he learns how to use a brush and acrylics, giving his works a more polished look, thanks to the use of these new technics.</div><div>Since 2017, he is represented by gallery Géraldine Zberro in Paris and by DAVID PLUSKWA gallery in Marseille since 2014.</div>

De kabouter neemt verschillende gedaantes aan, maar heel typerend in zijn werk is het rode hoedje. Hij heeft een heel expressieve stijl.<br><br></div><div>Ox-Alien herken je aan het gebruik van dit character: een roze vliegend hoofd met één oog als een “O” en één oog als een “X”. Vandaar de naam Ox-Alien. Reist de wereld rond maar de meeste van zijn werken zijn terug te vinden in thuisstad Rotterdam, waar hij toetrad tot het Lastplak collectief .<br><br>B-Art: B-Art is lid van de Limburgse Hertkore crew. Spoot vroeger ook veel organische kleurrijke werken, maar concentreert zich tegenwoordig vooral op zijn ‘puppets’, die hij spuit, plakt en verft. Hij draait al mee sinds 1999 en staat bekend voor zijn contrasten, reflecties over het leven en zijn fel kleurgebruik. Hij woont al een tijdje in Japan, maar komt nog regelmatig terug naar hier en laat altijd nieuw werk achter.<br><br></div>

He sprayed, among other things, the NorthWestWall container wall in Belgium in Werchter, and RondPunt 26 in Genk. In Hasselt, you can admire two beautiful works of his.</div>
