Muurschildering van 200 m² uit juli 2024 voor de stad Hasselt en Corda Campus, gecureerd door SAGA.

De Braziliaanse kunstenaar Thiago Mazzo creëerde deze florale muur op het parkeergebouw van de Corda Campus. De muurschildering verbindt zo als het ware de technologiecampus op de voormalige Philipssite met het nabijgelegen treinstation van Kiewit.

Dat dit kunstwerk in Kiewit (de thuisbasis van Pukkelpop) verschijnt, is geen toeval. De stad Hasselt zet er namelijk op in om ook de overige stadsdelen te verbinden met de street art in de binnenstad. Zo werd vorig jaar ook al de indrukwekkende muurschildering ‘Drive safe, think of me’ van Telmo Miel in de Banneuxwijk aangebracht.

Thiago Mazzo koos bewust voor kleurrijke bloemen die in Limburg te vinden zijn: klaproos, monnikskap, iris en hyacint. Oorspronkelijk wilde hij bloemen kiezen met de kleuren van de Belgische vlag, maar aangezien zwarte bloemen moeilijk te vinden zijn verving hij deze door blauwe en paarse exemplaren.

Om het werk te bezichtigen parkeer je best op de algemene bezoekersparking, waarna je te voet langs het Corda B-gebouw naar de parkeergarage wandelt. Dan zie je de kleurrijke muurschildering in de verte verschijnen en zie je meteen ook hoe het kunstwerk op natuurlijke wijze in de omgeving opgaat.

Brazilian artist Thiago Mazzo created this floral wall on the parking building of the Corda Campus. The mural thus connects, as it were, the technology campus on the former Philips site with Kiewit's nearby train station.

That this artwork appears in Kiewit (home of Pukkelpop) is no coincidence. In fact, the city of Hasselt is committed to connecting other parts of the city with street art in the city centre as well. Last year, for instance, Telmo Miel's impressive mural 'Drive safe, think of me' was also installed in the Banneux neighbourhood.

Thiago Mazzo deliberately chose colourful flowers that can be found in Limburg: poppies, aconitum, iris and bluebell. He originally wanted to choose flowers with the colours of the Belgian flag, but since black flowers are hard to find, he replaced them with blue and purple ones.

To view the work, it is best to park in the general visitor car park, then walk on foot past the Corda B building to the car park. Then you will see the colourful mural appear in the distance and immediately see how the artwork naturally blends into its surroundings.
