<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong>&nbsp;- Dit kunstwerk van een vis is van de Antwerpenaar Bart Boudewijns aka SMOK (°1972). Hij schildert meestal dieren en wil hiermee een stedelijk oerwoud creëren. Zijn stijl is levendig en fotorealistisch. SMOK: "Ik hou ervan om te schilderen met spuitbussen, maar ik ben niet bang om penselen en andere dingen te gebruiken. Mijn doel is om mensen te laten glimlachen of na te laten denken over de natuur, hun verantwoordelijkheden en sociaal bewustzijn".<br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - This work of art of a fish is made by the Antwerp artist Bart Boudewijns aka SMOK (°1972). He usually paints animals and with this he wants to create an urban jungle. His style is lively and photorealistic. SMOK: “I love to paint with spray cans but I am not afraid to use brushes and other stuff. My goal is to make people smile or think about nature, their responsibilities, and social awareness.”</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- DZIA beschilderde deze caravan in het kader van zijn eerste solo-expo die in 2015 plaatsvond in De Kruitfabriek. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- DZIA painted this caravan as part of his first solo exhibition which took place in De Kruitfabriek in 2015.</div>

<div><strong>EN</strong> - In 2015, DZIA held a Solo Expo (murals &amp; expo) for the first time. De Kruitfabriek organised the event. In 2016, DZIA again exhibited at De Kruitfabriek with an exhibition entitled: "Dzia 2.0 Expo". During the exhibition it was also possible to have works of DZIA tattooed by Karan Sarin. <br>The fish was drawn on gold-coloured paper and hung in De Kruitfabriek. Unfortunately, the artwork was later removed by DZIA himself. <br><br><strong>NL</strong> - In 2015 hield DZIA voor de eerste keer een Solo Expo (murals &amp; expo). De Kruitfabriek organiseerde het evenement. In 2016 exposeerde DZIA opnieuw in De Kruitfabriek met een expo getiteld: “Dzia 2.0 Expo”. Tijdens de tentoonstelling kon men ook werken van DZIA laten tatoeëren (door Karan Sarin). &nbsp;<br>De vis werd op goudkleurig papier getekend en hing in De Kruitfabriek. Helaas werd het kunstwerk later verwijderd door DZIA zelf.&nbsp;</div>

Lieve Haijen

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- De artiest die de gevel van het huis heeft versierd is Lieve Haijen uit Vilvoorde. Haar vraag om een muurplant te mogen planten tegen het huis werd door het stadsbestuur geweigerd omdat het voetpad niet breed genoeg was om de doorgang voor mindervaliden te verzekeren. Lieve besloot dan maar om out of the box te denken en zelf haar eigen muurplant te creëren met verf. Lieve is de moeder van Joris Silverans, eveneens een begenadigd artieste. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- The artist who decorated the façade of the house is Lieve Haijen from Vilvoorde. Her request to be allowed to plant a wall plant against the house was refused by the city council because the footpath was not wide enough to ensure passage for the disabled. Lieve decided to think out of the box and created her own wall plant with paint. Lieve is the mother of Joris Silverans, also a gifted artist.&nbsp;</div>

PeteOne

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - Deze Street Art werd gemaakt door kunstenaar Koen Van Cauwenberghe (°1983) aka MataOne en zijn spitsbroeder PeteOne. Beiden werden geboren in Ronse. Mataone (zijn naam betekent “Maintain Anarchy Through Art”) begon met graffitikunst toen hij 13 jaar was. Hij wordt erkend om zijn werk waarin hij diverse stijlen en technieken met elkaar vermengt: traditionele graffiti, verfspuit, enz. MataOne voert ons mee in een fantastische wereld met anarchistische nuances, gekleurd met zwarte humor en ironie. PeteOne (°1982) gaat door het leven als Peter De Catelle.&nbsp; <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - This Street Art was made by artist Koen Van Cauwenberghe (°1983) aka MataOne and his fellow artist PeteOne. Both were born in Ronse. MataOne (his name means "Maintain Anarchy Through Art") started graffiti art when he was 13 years old. He is recognized for his work in which he mixes various styles and techniques: traditional graffiti, paint sprayer, etc. MataOne takes us into a fantastic world of anarchistic nuances, coloured with black humour and irony. Sander Heremans

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>-&nbsp; Didier Cortois (een van de uitbaters van De Kruitfabriek) wil de elektriciteitskastjes voorzien van kleurrijke graffiti en stickers om zo het straatbeeld op te fleuren. Deze nutskast in de wijk Koningslo werd opgefleurd door Sander Heremans, ook bekend van het collectief Studio Entropica. Aangezien veel straten in de buurt van de rotonde vogels in hun naam hebben, besloot de kunstenaar de nutskast te versieren met tekeningen van vogels. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- Didier Cortois (one of the managers of De Kruitfabriek) wants to decorate the electrical cabinets with colourful graffiti and stickers to brighten up the streetscape. This utility cabinet in the district of Koningslo was brightened up by Sander Heremans, also known from the collective Studio Entropica. Since many streets near the roundabout have birds in their name, the artist decided to decorate the utility cabinet with drawings of birds.&nbsp;</div>

Bordalo ll

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- BORDALO II plaatste een reusachtige buizerd van afvalmateriaal en graffiti op de gevel van het internaat Horteco. De Portugees is een kunstenaar en milieuactivist. Hij portretteert dieren met materiaal dat hen bedreigt, zodat mensen kunnen nadenken. De buizerd (20m x 7m) maakt deel uit van zijn serie "Big Trash Animals". De school was op zoek naar een manier om het gebouw aantrekkelijker te maken. Leerlingen en personeel vielen meteen voor het werk van Bordalo II en zijn boodschap. Het klimaat is een hot issue onder de leerlingen. Ze zijn bezorgd over de opwarming van de aarde, het watertekort, de ontbossing en bedreigde diersoorten. Ze voelen zich verwant met Bordalo en delen graag zijn boodschap. Leerlingen, personeel en ouders verzamelden allerlei soorten hard plastic zoals tuinmeubilair en speelgoed. De afvalintercommunales Incovo en Ecowerf ondersteunden het project door specifieke afvalonderdelen te leveren. De school koos in overleg met Bordalo II voor een buizerd, omdat de vogels op het 50-hectare grote schoolterrein leven. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- BORDALO II placed a giant buzzard made of waste material and graffiti on the facade of the Horteco boarding school. The Portuguese is an artist and environmentalist. He portrays animals with material that threatens them so that people reflect. The buzzard (20m x 7m) is part of his artwork series “Big Trash Animals”. The school was looking for a way to make the building more attractive. Students and staff immediately fell for the work of Bordalo II and his message. Climate concerns are a hot issue amongst the students. The school opted for a buzzard in consultation with Bordalo II, because the birds live on the 50-hectare school grounds.&nbsp;</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - In de zomer van 2019 werd er in Vilvoorde een campagne gelanceerd rond het evenement "De Zomer van Asiat".“ASIAT” is de naam van de voormalige legerkazerne waarvan de stad in 2018 de sleutels in handen kreeg. Het gebied werd tijdens de zomermaanden van 2019 opengesteld voor het grote publiek. Men kon er terecht voor allerlei culturele activiteiten alsook voor een hapje en een drankje. In de vroegere stookplaats van het leger hield BISSER (afkomstig uit Leuven) een kleine tentoonstelling van zijn werk. BISSER werd door de stad Vilvoorde ook uitgenodigd om de ASIAT-site (die 6 ha groot is) op te fleuren met Street Art. Zo voorzag hij een nutskast van vier fabelachtige figuren en versierde hij eveneens een muur. De nutskast transformeerde hij in een soort huis waar in elke kamer een wonderlijk wezen resideert. Deze raadselachtige wezens zijn typisch voor de stijl van BISSER. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - In the summer of 2019, a campaign was launched in Vilvoorde around the event "The Summer of Asiat". HELL'O

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - Het gebeurt vaak dat een stationsomgeving een sombere, donkere plaats is. Daarom wilde de stad Vilvoorde een zeer kleurrijke muurschildering die de omgeving zeker zou opvrolijken. Zo kwamen ze terecht bij het kunstcollectief van Hello’O. Hell’O is een duo bestaande uit Jérôme Meynen en Antoine Detaille. Jérôme en Antoine ontmoetten elkaar tijdens hun studies in Bergen (Mons). Vandaag wonen ze in Brussel. Jérôme en Antoine kwamen oorspronkelijk uit de wereld van de graffiti, maar zijn geëvolueerd naar de wereld van de schilderkunst. Voor hun kleurrijke creaties gebruiken ze alleen penselen en borstels. Figuren die vaak terugkomen in hun werk zijn: vreemde dieren, kleine personages en aseksuele wezens. De stijl van Hello’O Collective doet denken aan de fantasiewereld van sprookjes en fabels. Hun composities roepen vaak een surrealistisch en mysterieus universum op. We zien terugkerende elementen, die het duo combineert met nieuwe personages, of opneemt in ongebruikelijke omgevingen.<br><br></div><div><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - It often happens that a station neighborhood is a gloomy, dark place. That is why the city of Vilvoorde wanted a very colorful wall painting that would certainly brighten up the surroundings. That's how they ended up with the Hello’O art collective. Hell’O is a duo consisting of Jérôme Meynen and Antoine Detaille. Jérôme and Antoine met during their studies in Bergen (Mons). Today they live in Brussels. <div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Welkom in de tuin van het Zennelab aka De Loodstuin. De vrouw met het kleurrijke kapsel werd gemaakt door YENT'L, een vrouwelijke artiest. Er is echter weinig over haar bekend.&nbsp; <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- Welcome to the garden of the Zennelab aka De Loodstuin. The woman with the colorful hairstyle was made by YENT'L, a female artist. However, little is known about her.&nbsp;</div>

Gijs Vanhee

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - Street Artist Gijs Vanhee (Mechelen) beperkt zich vaak tot de schakering van een kleur. Hij schildert graag mutanten: vaak zijn het kruisingen tussen vissen en vogels. <br><br>Tegenwoordig maakt Vanhee verhalende tekeningen in zwart-wit, waarin vogels een hoofdrol spelen. Daarbij hanteert Vanhee het antropomorfisme: het toekennen van menselijke eigenschappen aan niet-menselijke wezens. De vogels van Vanhee bespelen een muziekinstrument, surfen of drinken koffie. De ene keer met inkt op papier, de andere keer met verf op muren. Vaak is het werk autobiografisch of vertelt het een anekdote. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - Street Artist Gijs Vanhee (Mechelen) often limits himself to the shading of one colour. He likes to paint mutants: often they are hybrids between fish and birds.&nbsp;<br><br>Nowadays Vanhee makes narrative drawings in black and white, in which birds play a leading role. Vanhee uses anthropomorphism: assigning human characteristics to non-human beings. Vanhee's birds play musical instruments, surf or drink coffee. Sometimes with ink on paper, sometimes with paint on walls. Often the work is autobiographical or tells an anecdote.&nbsp;</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - In 2020 heeft Tim Marschang, de man achter Street Art Antwerp, de wedstrijd "mooiste Belgische Street Art van het jaar" georganiseerd. Volgers konden op sociale media hun stem uitbrengen op een selectie van 100 werken, allemaal gecreëerd door Belgen. In totaal hebben meer dan 2.500 mensen hun stem uitgebracht. De beste 20 werken gingen door naar een tweede ronde. Op basis daarvan werden de mooiste 5 werken gekozen. Deze prachtige vis van de hand van de Antwerpse kunstenaar SMOK mocht zich bij de 5 mooiste werken rekenen! <div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - In 2010 vroeg de stad aan een aantal Street Art artiesten om de ruimte onder de brug op te smukken met muurschilderingen, liefst met verwijzingen naar Vilvoorde. Deze (onafgewerkte) mural van een Brabants Trekpaard had een realisatie moeten worden van TONAMI en HANS.&nbsp; <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- In 2010 the city asked a number of Street Art artists to decorate the space under the bridge with murals, preferably with references to Vilvoorde. This (unfinished) mural of a Brabants draught horse should have been realized by TONAMI and HANS.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- De 362 meter lange mural werd gemaakt door Studio Entropica. De Street Art geeft de overgang van stad naar platteland (of omgekeerd) weer. Wie goed kijkt, ziet verschillende verwijzingen naar Vilvoorde (waaronder burgemeester Hans Bonte).<br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- The 362 meter long mural was made by Studio Entropica. The Street Art represents the transition from city to countryside (or vice versa). If you look closely, you will see various references to Vilvoorde, including mayor Hans Bonte</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- In aanloop tot zijn allereerste (!) solo-expo, tekende DZIA deze twee vogels op de zijkant van De Kruitfabriek. Op zijn Instagram account noemt hij het werk "The Thieving Birds". Oorspronkelijk had een van de twee volgens een plastic zak in zijn bek. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - In the run-up to its very first (!) solo exhibition, DZIA drew these two birds on one of the sides of De Kruitfabriek. On his Instagram account he calls the work "The Thieving Birds". Originally one of the two birds had a plastic bag in his mouth.&nbsp;</div>

Hyuro

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Dit kunstwerk werd gemaakt door Tamara Djurovic, ook wel bekend als HYURO. Ze werd geboren in Argentinië en woonde in Spanje. Voor dit project werd HYURO gevraagd iets te maken over de Spaanse immigratie in Vilvoorde. Eén op de drie inwoners van Vilvoorde is van Spaanse afkomst. Opmerkelijk is dat ze bijna allemaal uit hetzelfde dorp komen, uit Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, een plaats in de provincie Cordoba in Andalusië. In het eerste decennium van de twintigste eeuw was het mijngebied van Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo één van de belangrijkste industriële centra van Andalusië. Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo was dus vooral een stad van de arbeidersklasse, waar de leefomstandigheden, zoals in veel andere arbeiderssteden, niet al te goed waren. Als je in Vilvoorde rondloopt, is de Spaanse aanwezigheid merkbaar. Je hoort voortdurend Spaanse gesprekken op straat. De muurschildering stelt het immigratieproces voor, het deken verwijst naar de cultuur, de gewoontes die we in ons dragen. HYURO overleed in november 2020.<br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- This work of art was made by Tamara Djurovic, also known as HYURO. Born in Argentina, she lived in Spain. For this project HYURO was asked to make something about the Spanish immigration in Vilvoorde. One in three inhabitants of Vilvoorde is of Spanish descent. Noteworthy is that almost all of them come from the same village, from Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, a place in the province of Córdoba in Andalusia. In the first decade of the twentieth century, the mining area of Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo was one of the most important industrial centers of Andalusia. Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo was therefore primarily a working class city, where the living conditions, as in many other worker cities, were not too good. When you walk around Vilvoorde, the Spanish presence is noticeable. You constantly hear Spanish conversations on the street. The image represents the immigration process, the blanket refers to the culture, the customs that we carry within us. HYURO died in November 2020.&nbsp;</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong>: HERTCORE, een collectief uit Limburg is al bezig sinds 2002 en staat bekend om zijn kleurrijke stijl. De groep bestaat uit Philip Bosmans (aka AMATIC), Ben Peeters (aka UCON) en Bart Bosmans (aka B-ART). Het water is de link met de stad.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong>: HERTCORE, a collective from Limburg, has been working since 2002 and is known for its colourful style. The group consists of Philip Bosmans (aka AMATIC), Ben Peeters (aka UCON) and Bart Bosmans (aka B-ART). The water is the link with the city. &nbsp;</div>

Unknown Artist

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Op de parking van het "Huis van de Mens" in de Frans Geldersstraat nummer 23 kom je deze muurschildering tegen. Wij hebben helaas nog niet kunnen achterhalen wie deze heeft getekend. Maar we hebben een licht vermoeden dat hij/zij fan is van Tim Burton :-)<br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- On the parking lot of the "Huis van de Mens" in the Frans Geldersstraat number 23 you will come across this mural. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to find out who drew it. But we have a slight suspicion that he/she is a fan of Tim Burton :-)</div>

KIWI Wall Art

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - Kevin Lamy Stiers aka KIWI LIBERDADE SAGRADA, is terug in Vilvoorde. Sociale organisaties ZenneLab &amp; RISO schakelden de kunstenaar voor de tweede keer in om de wijk Broek op te fleuren. Na de loods in de tuin van het Zennelab, was nu de 40 meter lange muur langs de Harensesteenweg aan de beurt. Zennelab ging rond en vroeg de buurt wat ze graag op de muur zou zien. Het verdict: planten &amp; dieren, iets abstracts én een tafel met twee glazen rode wijn uitkijkend op een Italiaanse horizon. De buurt vroeg, KIWI draaide. Naast de prachtige exotische fauna &amp; flora, is er in het midden van de muurschildering een gezicht te zien. Volgens de artiest stelt het hoofd de fasen van het leven voor: "Als kind zien we de wereld. Als we ouder worden, sluiten we die ogen vanwege de wereld. Om een wereld te zien die zich achter de wereld verbergt, moeten we leren de conditionering ervan af te leren!" Voor de krulvormige motieven liet KIWI zich inspireren door de flamboyante patronen van kathedralen. Er was zeer veel interactie met de buurtbewoners. Een van hen had een kat met maar een oog; ook de tijger links op de muur mankeert iets aan zijn oogje. De kunstenaar deed er tien dagen over om de muur af te werken. Op het (apart) stuk muur helemaal rechts, vindt men een mama leeuw met haar 4 welpen terug. Aanvankelijk wou de kunstenaar daar een aapje tekenen met een kiwi in zijn hand, dat uit het kader in het Italiaanse landschap kwam. Maar de dame aan de overkant van de straat vond dat geen goed idee en vroeg KIWI of hij het kon veranderen in iets persoonlijkers. De dame in kwestie had 4 kinderen; KIWI schilderde bijgevolg een mama leeuw met 4 kleintjes.<br>Je kan de artiest volgen op facebook &amp; Instagram via zijn account: "kiwiwallarts". <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - Kevin Lamy Stiers aka KIWI LIBERDADE SAGRADA, is back in Vilvoorde. Social organisations ZenneLab &amp; RISO called on the artist for the second time to brighten up the neighborhood of Broek. After the shed in the garden of Zennelab, it was now up to the 40 meter long wall along the Harensesteenweg. Zennelab went around and asked the neighborhood what they would like to see on the wall. The verdict: plants &amp; animals, something abstract and a table with two glasses of red wine looking out over an Italian horizon. The neighborhood asked, KIWI made it happen. Besides the beautiful exotic fauna &amp; flora, there is a face in the middle of the mural. According to the artist, the head represents the stages of life: "As children, we see the world. As we grow older, we close those eyes because of the world. To see a world that hides behind it, we have to learn to unlearn its conditioning!" For the curly motifs, KIWI took inspiration from the flamboyant patterns of cathedrals. There was a lot of interaction with the local residents. One of them had a cat with only one eye; the tiger on the left wall is also missing an eye. It took the artist ten days to finish the wall. On the (separate) piece of wall on the far right, there is a mother lion with her four cubs. Initially the artist wanted to draw a monkey with a kiwi in its hand, which came out of the frame in the Italian landscape. But the lady across the street didn't like that idea and asked KIWI if he could change it into something more personal. The lady in question had 4 children; so KIWI painted a mama lion with 4 little ones.&nbsp;<br>You can follow the artist on facebook and Instagram via his account: "kiwiwallarts".</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - Het Zennelab is een soort gemeenschapscentrum. Het is een plaats voor en door de bewoners van de wijk Broek. Een plek voor initiatief. In 2017 werd de grote tuin opgefleurd met enkele muurschilderingen. De zwart-witte muurschildering met de handen en voeten is van de hand van Sara Vermeylen (°1983), een Mechelse kunstenares. Sara Vermeylen heeft een Instagram-account waarop ze zich als volgt voorstelt: "Viel als baby in een ketel of houtskooldrank. Tekent op monolithisch papier. Eet wilde bessen en slaat Romeinen in elkaar". Deze omschrijving verwijst naar haar passie en werkwijze: tekenen op wit papier met houtskool. The black and white mural with the hands and feet is by Sara Vermeylen (°1983), a female artist from the neighbourhood of Mechelen. Sara Vermeylen has an Instagram account on which she introduces herself as follows: “Fell into a cauldron or charcoal potion as a baby. Draws on monolithic paper. Eats wild bores and beats up Romans”. This description refers to her passion and way of working: drawing on white paper with charcoal. She describes her works as: "Biased drawings of shallow breathing, muscular rigidity and involuntary behavior of the body". <div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Deze mural werd gemaakt door SMATES en CAZn. CAZn ofwel Gunther Baeyens komt uit Wetteren. In de lagere school viel zijn tekenvaardigheid al op. CAZn volgde kunsthumaniora en vrije kunstambachten in Gent en Antwerpen op de Stedelijke Secundaire Kunstacademie en de Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten. Daar werd zijn gave die hij van zijn grootvaders geërfd heeft nog bijgeschaafd. Zijn stijl wordt gekenmerkt door het strakke, architecturale design en de realistische beelden. Bart Smeets (artiestennaam SMATES) komt uit Asse en woont in Mechelen. Hij studeerde grafische vormgeving aan Sint-Lukas in Brussel. Hij volgde ook schilderlessen aan de Portaelsschool in Vilvoorde. SMATES tekent meestal dromerige taferelen. Zijn stijl is fotorealistisch en hij speelt graag met diepte. Hij haalt zijn inspiratie uit de omgeving en de vorm van de muur.<br><br><strong>ENGLISH - </strong>This mural was made by CAZn and SMATES. CAZn or Gunther Baeyens is from Wetteren. Nadat hij in 2016 de buitenmuur (naast de ingang van het zwembad) al onder handen had genomen, kwam SMATES in 2020 terug voor het vervolg; de grote buitenmuur die te zien is door het grote raam van het zwembad.<br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- This beautiful Street Art by SMATES decorates the three walls of the inner courtyard of 't Zeepaardje, the municipal swimming pool of Vilvoorde. After he had already taken care of the outside wall (next to the entrance of the swimming pool) in 2016, SMATES returned in 2020 for the sequel; the big outside wall that can be seen through the big window of the swimming pool.</div>

Het is een oude kammachine van Van Landegem-Hellemond. Zij maakt deel uit van het Industrieel Straatmuseum van Vilvoorde. Met de beschilderingen wenst de stad een hedendaagse toets te geven aan deze oude relicten. Dit toestel werd beschilderd door illustrator Julie Vangeel.</div><div><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- This machine was installed in 2019 at the intersection of the Rubensstraat and the Breemputstraat in the district Kassei. <div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - De 158ste editie van de Vilvoordse jaarmarkt kon dit jaar niet plaatsvinden. Daarom besliste het college van burgemeester en schepenen om een aantal alternatieven te organiseren. Joris Silverans kreeg de opdracht om een oude poster van de jaarmarkt te schilderen op een gevel in de Leuvense straat. Hierdoor heeft het Vilvoordse straatbeeld een permanente herinnering aan de jaarmarkt. Omdat Silverans houdt van tekenen en graffiti, en bovendien geboren en getogen is in Vilvoorde, twijfelde hij geen seconde.<br>Het oorspronkelijke idee van stad Vilvoorde was om een oude poster van de jaarmarkt te kopiëren. Silverans stemde in onder de voorwaarde dat hij er zijn eigen stijl in mocht verwerken. Na vijf dagen was het ontwerp voor de <em>mural</em> klaar. Die tekende hij meteen op schaal om zich voor te bereiden op de grootte van de muur.&nbsp; Nadat stad Vilvoorde het ontwerp goedkeurde, was hij klaar om de kale gevel onder handen te nemen. Op de muur zelf werkte hij aan de hand van een raster. Datzelfde raster tekende hij ook op het goedgekeurde ontwerp om zo gemakkelijker de tekening van een A4 formaat over te brengen op de 14 meter hoge muur. Het afwerken van de muurschildering was een race tegen de klok. Na acht dagen schilderen, haalde Silverans de strakke deadline.<br>Het uiteindelijke ontwerp bestaat uit twee delen. Bovenaan pronkt de afbeelding met drie boerenpaarden die volledig in graffiti is gemaakt. Vilvoorde staat bekend om zijn boerenpaarden en om zijn inwoners die niet vies zijn van een stukje paardenvlees. Onderaan staat tekst die met de hand is geschilderd. Silverans bestempelt de ervaring als één van de beste uit zijn leven. Hij krijgt maar niet genoeg van tekenen en graffiti en hoopt op nog vele opdrachten in de toekomst.</div><div><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - The 158th edition of the Vilvoorde annual fair could not take place this year. The municipal executive therefore decided to organise a number of alternatives. Joris Silverans was commissioned to paint an old poster of the fair on a facade in Leuvensestraat. This will give the Vilvoorde street scene a permanent reminder of the fair. Because Silverans loves drawing and graffiti, and was also born and bred in Vilvoorde, he did not hesitate for a second.<br>The original idea of the city of Vilvoorde was to copy an old poster of the fair. Silverans agreed on the condition that he could incorporate his own style into it. After five days, the design for the mural was ready. He immediately drew it to scale to prepare for the size of the wall.&nbsp; After the city of Vilvoorde had approved the design, he was ready to tackle the bare wall. On the wall itself, he worked using a grid. He drew the same grid on the approved design to make it easier to transfer the A4-sized drawing to the 14-metre high wall. Finishing the mural was a race against time. After eight days of painting, Silverans met the tight deadline.<br>The final design consists of two parts. At the top, there is an image of three farmer's horses that is entirely made in graffiti. Vilvoorde is known for its farm horses and its inhabitants who are not averse to a bit of horse meat. At the bottom is hand-painted text. Silverans describes the experience as one of the best of his life. He can't get enough of drawing and graffiti and hopes for many more commissions in the future.</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Deze kleurrijke Street Art werd gemaakt door Kevin Lamy Stiers, een Belg met Portugese roots. In Portugal staat "Heilige vrijheid" oftewel Liberdade Sagrada centraal en deze artiest wil heel graag leven in die vrijheid; daarom koos hij voor de artiestennaam KIWI, afkomstig van het Franse "Qui vit". Het betekent dus zoveel als "Hij die leeft in Heilige vrijheid". Het waren Zennelab, Riso en Fam.ly die de handen in elkaar sloegen en de kunstenaar uitnodigden om de loods in de tuin te versieren. Wat er op het gebouw kwam te staan, werd mee beslist door de jongeren van de wijk. Uit de brainstorm kwamen vooral natuur, muziek, sport en cultuur naar voren. Daarmee ging KIWI aan de slag. Hij werkte maar liefst 14 dagen aan de mural, telkens 12 tot soms 16 uur per dag. Er valt dan ook heel wat te zien: we herkennen Muhammad Ali, Gaia (de godin van de natuur en de aarde), Vrouwe Justitia en Pegasus (een verwijzing naar de mascotte van Vilvoorde nl het paard). We zien heel veel dieren en ook de letters ODB wat staat voor "onder de brug". Bedoeling is dat de Street Art de jongere bezoekers van de Loodstuin inspireert.<br>Meer lezen over deze mural? In Portugal, "Holy Freedom" or Liberdade Sagrada is very important and this artist wants very much to live in that freedom; therefore he chose the artist name KIWI, from the French "Qui vit". It means "He who lives in sacred freedom". It was Zennelab, Riso and Fam.ly who joined forces and invited the artist to decorate the shed in the garden. The young people of the neighbourhood helped to decide what should be put on the building. The brainstorming sessions highlighted nature, music, sport and culture. KIWI set to work with this. He worked on the mural for no less than 14 days, for 12 to 16 hours a day. There is a lot to see: we recognise Muhammad Ali, Gaia (the goddess of nature and the earth), Lady Justice and Pegasus (a reference to the mascot of Vilvoorde, the horse). We see lots of animals and also the letters ODB which stands for "under the bridge" in Dutch. <div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Welkom in De Kruitfabriek. Hier vond eind 2015 de allereerste solo-expo van DZIA plaats! In aanloop tot zijn tentoonstelling tekende DZIA hier op een van de muren van het terras zijn Gouden Vos. Tijdens de tentoonstelling kon men zelfs tekeningen van DZIA laten tatoeëren. De Kruitfabriek is een initiatief van Matexi in samenwerking met de Stad Vilvoorde. Sinds november 2014 wordt De Kruitfabriek uitgebaat en vormgegeven door Madlion. Het gebouw doet dienst als een soort van cultuurtempel.&nbsp; <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- Welcome to De Kruitfabriek. DZIA's very first solo exhibition took place here at the end of 2015! In the run-up to his exhibition, DZIA drew his Golden Fox here on one of the walls of the terrace. During the exhibition, it was even possible to have DZIA's drawings tattooed. De Kruitfabriek is an initiative of Matexi in cooperation with the City of Vilvoorde. Since November 2014 De Kruitfabriek is operated and designed by Madlion. The building serves as a kind of cultural temple.&nbsp;</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Naar aanleiding van de festiviteiten rond 200 jaar Portaels, vroeg de stad Vilvoorde begin 2018 aan Vilvoordenaar Wide Vercnocke om een muurschildering te realiseren. Vercnocke, geboren in Leuven in 1985 en afgestudeerd als illustrator aan Sint-Lukas Brussel, koos voor een interessante hommage. Alhoewel de tekening op het eerste zicht vrij sober lijkt, is het geen vrijblijvend werk geworden. De verwijzingen naar Portaels zijn legio. Om te beginnen is er de dag van inhuldiging: 30 april 2018. Dit is geen willekeurig gekozen datum. Tweehonderd jaar geleden, op 30 april 1818 om één uur in de namiddag, werd Jean Portaels geboren in Vilvoorde. Ook de locatie van het kunstwerk is welbewust gekozen. Naast de Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Goede Hoopkerk lag vroeger brouwerij “De Sterre” van vader Portaels. Net op die plek werd Portaels geboren en bracht hij daar zijn jeugd door. De zwarte ster bovenaan de tekening, verwijst trouwens naar de brouwerij in kwestie. Het grootste deel van de tekening wordt ingenomen door twee mannen; beiden stellen Jean Portaels voor. De jonge man die in oostelijke richting stapt, is klaar om de wijde wereld in te trekken. In zijn linkerhand houdt hij een quasi onbeschreven blad vast. Klaar om impressies op te doen. Klaar om geïnspireerd te worden. Klaar om zijn talent te ontwikkelen. Zo bezoekt hij o.a. Frankrijk, Italië, Hongarije en Griekenland. Stiekem - zijn familie weet van niets - trekt Portaels de Middellandse zee over. Als een van de eerste Belgische schilders reist hij naar Syrië, Palestina, Egypte, Marokko, Algerije, Libanon, enz. Geen evidentie in het begin van de 19de eeuw. De figuur op de achtergrond die in westelijke richting stapt, komt terug naar huis. Zoveel ervaringen rijker. Op zijn rug: een goedgevulde rugzak vol met duizenden schetsen die als basis zullen dienen voor zijn schilderijen die hij later in zijn ateliers zou realiseren. Het tafereel van beide mannen wordt omsloten door een driehoek. Ook geen toeval uiteraard. Hierbij liet Wide Vercnocke zich inspireren door de Sint-Jacob-op-Koudenberg, de kerk aan het Koningsplein in Brussel (met vooraan het standbeeld van Godfried van Bouillon). Het fronton - boven een Romeins aandoende zuilengalerij - is versierd met een fresco van de hand van Jean Portaels. Het zou “Maria, troosteres der verdrukten” uitbeelden. Ook in de kerk zelf hangen twee schilderijen van Portaels. Naast de Street art tekening werd Wide Vercnocke ook gevraagd om de etiketten op het speciaal gedenkbier “200 jaar Portaels” te illustreren (limited edition). Verder verzorgde hij de illustraties voor de uitgave “Portaels, Vilvoordenaar en wereldburger” van auteurs Davy Depelchin en Jona Broothaerts. Tenslotte werkte hij mee aan de tentoonstelling “200 jaar Portaels” die plaatsvond in het Tuchthuis van 19 mei t.e.m. 1 juli 2018.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- On the occasion of the festivities around 200 years of Portaels (a well-known painter), the city of Vilvoorde asked Wide Vercnocke to create a mural in early 2018. Vercnocke, born in Leuven in 1985 and graduated as an illustrator from Sint-Lukas Brussels, chose an interesting homage. Although at first sight the drawing seems rather sober, it has not become a noncommittal work. References to Portaels are numerous. To begin with, there is the day of inauguration: 30 April 2018. This is not a randomly chosen date. Two hundred years ago, on 30 April 1818 at one o'clock in the afternoon, Jean Portaels was born in Vilvoorde. The location of the work of art was also deliberately chosen. Next to the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Goede Hoopkerk (Church of Our Lady of Good Hope) used to be a brewery "The Star", owned by father Portaels. Portaels was born just on that spot and spent his youth there. The black star at the top of the drawing refers to the brewery in question. The largest part of the drawing is occupied by two men; both represent Jean Portaels. The young man stepping eastwards is ready to go out into the wide world. In his left hand he is holding an almost blank canvas. Ready to make impressions. Ready to be inspired. Ready to develop his talent. For example, he visits France, Italy, Hungary and Greece. Secretly - his family doesn't know anything - Portaels crosses the Mediterranean. As one of the first Belgian painters, he travels to Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, and so on. This was not evident at the beginning of the 19th century. The figure in the background stepping westwards returns home. So many experiences richer. On his back: a well-filled backpack full of thousands of sketches that will serve as the basis for his paintings that he would later realize in his studios. The scene of both men is enclosed by a triangle. Not a coincidence, of course. Wide Vercnocke was inspired by the Saint-Jacob-op-Koudenberg, the church on Place Royale in Brussels (with the statue of Godfrey of Bouillon in front). The pediment - above a Roman-style colonnade - is decorated with a fresco by Jean Portaels. It would depict "Mary, Comforter of the oppressed". Two paintings by Portaels also hang in the church itself. In addition to the Street art drawing, Wide Vercnocke was also asked to illustrate the labels on the special memorial beer "200 years of Portaels" (limited edition). Furthermore he provided the illustrations for the book "Portaels, citizen of Vilvoorde and world citizen" by authors Davy Depelchin and Jona Broothaerts. Finally, he contributed to the exhibition "200 Years of Portaels" which took place in the Tuchthuis from 19 May to 1 July 2018.&nbsp; &nbsp;</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Deze mural werd gerealiseerd door o.a. Eyes-B, een kunstenaar uit Brussel. Hij begon zijn artistieke carrière in de tekenkunst, stapte al snel over naar de schilderkunst om te belanden bij Street Art. Improvisatie en spontaniteit vormen de leidraad voor zijn werk. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- This mural was realized by Eyes-B, an artist from Brussels, among others. He started his artistic career in drawing, soon switched to painting and ended up at Street Art. Improvisation and spontaneity are the guiding principles of his work. &nbsp;</div>

Beide muurschilderingen staan voor verbondenheid in diversiteit. “De menselijke ketting op de muur verbindt Machelen en Diegem”, verduidelijken Telmo en Miel van All About Things. “Deze mengelmoes van mensen geeft aan dat je samen sterker staat. Het danstafereel aan de andere muur creëert ook verbondenheid van mensen met verschillende achtergronden. Ook hier hebben we de afbeeldingen anoniem gehouden, zodat iedereen zich in het werk kan herkennen. De klassieke dans heeft een rustgevende en positieve uitstraling en geeft de dynamiek van de gemeente weer.”</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - Street Art is in. Volgens sommige kunstkenners is het zelfs de belangrijkste stroming in de beeldende kunst van de laatste decennia. Misschien wel de bekendste Street Art artiest in België is DZIA (uit het Antwerpse). DZIA – die ook internationaal furore maakt – heeft een heel herkenbare stijl. Hij tekent vooral wilde dieren d.m.v. abstracte en geometrische lijnen. Ook in Vilvoorde kan men enkele pareltjes van hem terugvinden. Hier in de tuin van het Zennelab kan men er alvast twee bewonderen: een schaap en een vogel (een derde, een slak, is ondertussen verdwenen). Het schaap werd getekend op vraag van het Zennelab n.a.v. een evenement waarbij o.a. schapen een rol speelden.<br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - Street Art is hot. According to some art experts, it is even the most important movement in the visual arts of recent decades.&nbsp;<br>Perhaps the best known Street Artist in Belgium is DZIA (Antwerp based). DZIA - who also enjoys international fame - has a very recognizable style. He draws mainly wild animals using abstract and geometric lines. A number of his works can also be found in Vilvoorde.&nbsp; Here in the garden of the Zennelab you can already admire two of them: a sheep and a bird (a third one, a snail, has been removed in the meantime). The sheep was drawn at the request of the Zennelab on the occasion of an event in which, among other things, sheep played a role.</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong>&nbsp;- HIX TRIL (echte naam: Sven Mariën) is een grafisch ontwerper uit Vilvoorde. Samen met Didier Cortois en Julie Cluydts baat hij De Kruitfabriek uit. De hoofden op een van de pijlers van de voormalige buskruitfabriek zijn van zijn hand.&nbsp; <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - HIX TRIL (real name: Sven Mariën) is a graphic designer from Vilvoorde. Lost Flammos

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- LOST FLAMMOS maakte deze mural. De kleur blauw verwijst naar het water in Vilvoorde en de Europabrug werd in een modern kleedje gestoken. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- LOST FLAMMOS made this mural. The colour blue refers to the water in Vilvoorde. A futuristic version of the Europe Bridge can be found if you look closely.</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Bart Smeets (artiestennaam SMATES) komt uit Asse en woont in Mechelen. Hij studeerde grafische vormgeving aan Sint-Lukas in Brussel. Hij volgde ook schilderlessen aan de Portaelsschool in Vilvoorde.<br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- Bart Smeets (artist name SMATES) comes from Asse and lives in Mechelen. De artiest is Koen Eres Deweerdt. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- The centaur (horse-human) is a fabulous animal from Greek mythology but refers here to the nickname of the Vilvoordenaar namely the pjeirefretter. The artist is Koen Eres Deweerdt.&nbsp;</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - De derde muurschildering die DZIA maakte in de tuin van het Zennelab is helaas verdwenen door sloopwerkzaamheden. Het was een slak. Er is echter een anekdote verbonden aan de slak: oorspronkelijk zou DZIA alleen het schaap schilderen. Maar toen de verantwoordelijke van het Zennelab de volgende dag de tuin ging inspecteren, ontdekte ze twee extra-tekeningen: een vogel en een slak. Van een aangename verrassing gesproken! In tegenstelling tot de slak kan men de vogel nog steeds zien. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - The third mural that DZIA made in the garden of the Zennelab has unfortunately vanished due to demolition works. <div><strong>NEDERLANDS</strong> - Een van de leerkrachten contacteerde graffiti artist Jonas Tuch nadat ze hem aan het werk had gezien in Mechelen. “In de Blauwehondstraat was ik aan een gelijkaardig werk bezig. Dat sprak haar aan en ik gaf een kaartje mee. Een tijdje geleden kreeg ik dan de vraag om een werk op de schoolmuur te maken”, vertelt kunstenaar Jonas Tuch (31). “Ik werk met gezichtscontouren, maar in plaats van ogen en neuzen te schilderen geef ik een scène weer in het gezicht. Voor dit werk haalde ik de inspiratie uit de visietekst van de school. Samenwerken, doelen bereiken, ontwikkelen en ontdekken zijn enkele van de thema’s.”<br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- One of the teachers contacted graffiti artist Jonas Tuch after seeing him at work in Mechelen. "I was working on a similar project in the Blauwehondstraat. That appealed to her and I gave her my businesscard. A while ago, I was asked to make a work on the school wall," explains artist Jonas Tuch (31). "I work with facial contours, but instead of painting eyes and noses, I depict a scene in the face. <div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Deze mural werd gemaakt door Sander Heremans, ook bekend van het collectief Studio Entropica. Deze muur illustreert een voetbalgod. God is afgebeeld net voor hij in actie komt. Vooraleer hij dat doet, moet hij eerst zijn schoenveters strikken. Om een goede speler te worden, moet je twee dingen combineren: het rationele en het irrationele. Het knopen van de veters geeft het rationele aan. zonder na te denken kun je niet spelen. Het stierenmasker wijst op het instinctieve (het irrationele). <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - This mural was made by Sander Heremans, also known from the collective Studio Entropica. This wall illustrates a soccer god. God is depicted just before he comes into action. Before he does, he first has to tie his shoelaces. To become a good player, you have to combine two things: the rational and the irrational. Tying the laces indicates the rational. you can't play without thinking. The bull mask indicates the instinctive (the irrational).&nbsp;</div>

God of Football

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Sinds 1989 heeft Vilvoorde een stratenmuseum. Daarbij worden oude werktuigen die deel uit maakten van het industriële verleden van de stad, in het straatbeeld geplaatst. Het was echter van 2007 geleden dat er nog een machine toegevoegd werd aan de bestaande collectie. Maar in 2018 was het dan zover. Toen kwamen er twee toestellen bij. Deze draaibank van het bedrijf Mondiale is er een van. Reeds in 2016 werd aan Studio Entropica gevraagd om de machine op te smukken t.t.z. van illustraties te voorzien. Het is een eerbetoon aan de Vilvoordse industrie geworden met een grappige en creatieve kwinkslag. Zo is er bijvoorbeeld een vijs die zegt “Screw you all”. Studio Entropica is een kwartet bestaande uit Sander Heremans, Dimitri Sakelaropolus (JANGOJIM), Rik Potoms (RIKO) en Tom Glorieus (TT).<br><br><strong>ENGLISH - </strong>Since 1989, Vilvoorde has had a street museum. Old tools that were part of the city's industrial past are placed in the street scene. It was not until 2007 that a machine was added to the existing collection. But by 2018 the time had come. Then two more machines were added. This lathe from the Mondiale company is one of them. Already in 2016, Studio Entropica was asked to embellish the machine with illustrations. Het gebouw is het jeugdhuis van Houtem dat ATS wordt genoemd (Action &amp; Teen Spirit).&nbsp; <br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- ROA, DZIA and Gijs Vanhee all painted this building. ROA did this a few years before DZIA and Gijs Vanhee came along. The building is the youth centre of Houtem called ATS (Action &amp; Teen Spirit). &nbsp;</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- LOST FLAMMOS is een collectief bestaande uit een negental kunstenaars uit West-Vlaanderen. Aan dit project werkten mee: Pier, Boris, Jipla, Jeps, Timon en Stein. De skater verwijst naar het skatepark onder de brug. Hij studeerde animatie in Gent en moest zijn eerste jaar aan de Hogeschool overdoen, vandaar zijn artiestennaam. Zijn inspiratiebronnen zijn: zijn oudere broer, The Simpsons, de boeken van Kid Paddle en het Franse tijdschrift Graffbombz. Als scoutsleider leidde hij de AKABE. Dit zijn jonge mensen met een verstandelijke beperking. De manier waarop ze tekenden inspireerde hem ook. <br>De figuur is gebaseerd op een foto die BISSER vond in de krant. Het is eigenlijk de eerste muur die hij zo maakte. Voor BISSER was het eigenlijk een uitprobeersel. Er zit dus niet zo veel betekenis achter. <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - Welcome to the garden of the Zennelab. BISSER is an artist from Leuven (Belgium). He studied animation in Ghent and had to redo his first year at the Hogeschool, hence his artist name. His sources of inspiration are: his older brother, The Simpsons, the books of Kid Paddle and the French magazine Graffbombz. As a scouts leader he led the AKABE. These are young people with a mental disability. The way they drew also inspired him.<br>The figure is based on a picture BISSER found in a newspaper. It's actually the first wall he made like this. For BISSER it was actually a tryout. So there's not so much meaning behind it.</div>

Op een van de muren heeft DZIA in 2015 zijn stempel achtergelaten. Geen dier deze keer, maar een quote: "I don't trust words. I trust actions." Een unicum eigenlijk, aangezien DZIA voornamelijk bekend staat om fauna aan muren toe te voegen. Wist je trouwens dat deze bezige bij sinds 2003 op regelmatige basis een fanzine uitbrengt, genaamd Krank? <br><br><strong>ENGLISH</strong> - Behind the terrace of the Kruitfabriek is the Kruittuin, a temporary green zone. A place that wants to inspire people to experiment with greenery. DZIA left its mark on one of the walls in 2015. Not an animal this time, but a quote: "I don't trust words. I trust actions." Unique actually, since DZIA is mainly known for adding fauna to walls. By the way, did you know that since 2003 the Street Artist has been releasing a limited edition fanzine called Krank?&nbsp;</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Deze mural maakte DZIA in 2018 in samenwerking met BMW voor de lancering van de nieuwe BMW X2. Dit is de tweede vos die DZIA tekende in Vilvoorde; de eerste is terug te vinden in De Kruitfabriek. Ook hier ziet men weer zijn zeer herkenbare stijl: dieren die opgebouwd zijn uit geometrische vlakken en vloeiende lijnen. Wie DZIA al in actie heeft gezien weet dat hij zeer snel werkt. In 2019 organiseerde Radio 1 een wedstrijd voor de Strafste Street Art in België. Daarbij kon iedereen zijn favoriete werk fotograferen en insturen. Vervolgens selecteerde een jury tien werken die in een shortlist werden gegoten en waarop het publiek kon stemmen. Meer dan 2000 mensen brachten een stem uit.
