Half Buzzard

ENGLISH - BORDALO II placed a giant buzzard made of waste material and graffiti on the facade of the Horteco boarding school. The Portuguese is an artist and environmentalist. He portrays animals with material that threatens them so that people reflect. The buzzard (20m x 7m) is part of his artwork series “Big Trash Animals”. The school was looking for a way to make the building more attractive. Students and staff immediately fell for the work of Bordalo II and his message. Climate concerns are a hot issue amongst the students. They are also concerned with global warming, water shortage, deforestation and endangered species. They feel related to Bordalo and are happy to share his message. Students, staff and parents collected all kinds of hard plastic waste material such as garden furniture and toys. The waste intermunicipalities Incovo and Ecowerf supported the project by supplying specific waste fractions. The school opted for a buzzard in consultation with Bordalo II, because the birds live on the 50-hectare school grounds.
