<div>Yasja Ligtelijn is actually an illustrator, but is increasingly experimenting in the street art scene. She has already made a number of (inside) murals in Heerlen but this is the first time that she has hidden 10 small paste-up pieces in the city of Heerlen. We'll be nice and show you one location, the rest you may find by yourself... Good luck!</div>

<div>Restaurant Graffiti is located in the heart of Heerlen in Limburg; the city known for its murals. Culinary and artistic go hand in hand at Restaurant Graffiti. You can’t see that&nbsp; in the artwork on the plate, but also in the artwork in and around the restaurant. The murals in our restaurant have been applied by Eelco van den Berg, Stohead, Collin van der Sluijs, Zedz, Rutger Termohlen, Super A and Hadassah Emmerich. On the outside facade of the restaurant you can admire a work by Claudio Ethos.</div>

<div>Jiggy Jetlag, aka Famous Jamous, aka James Jetlazer collaborated with a local talent on this one. Cool thing is that it's a very quiet location, so both drivers and pedestrians can stop in the middle of the road and enjoy the scenery.</div>

<div>The artist is fascinated by the thought that there are other forms of intelligent life in our universe. He wanted to bring attention to the possibility that at any given time, their operated technology could crash into one of our buildings.</div>

<div>Aan de achterkant van de muurschildering van Collin van der Sluijs, Super A en Rutger Termohlen heeft Lars Ickenroth ook een muurschildering gemaakt. Deze mural is vanuit de trein goed zichtbaar en ook met een ladder kun je dit kunstwerk vanuit de Limaweg bewonderen.</div>

<div>HNRX, is not street art or typical type of graffiti. He would call himself more of an artist who is often painting in public spaces as on paper or something else. The background of his pictures mostly is not perfect, so he must make the best of it. That makes each picture individual and gives it character. It feels “alive.” His art is not about any political statement or about what happens around the world. He wants to transfer his pictures with just fun, joy, and love.</div>

<div>This piece is featuring a gradient with tulips and chains superimposed over the visage of Frederik Hendrik (1625-1647) a Statdtholder of the Dutch Republic, and sovereign Prince of Orange during the Dutch Golden Age and advent of the Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnie (VOC). The flower arrangement, intended to represent the Tulip Mania, one of the first documented commodity bubbles in the history of Europe and mercantilism, is complimented by a cornucopia of common Dutch fruits and vegetables derived from capitalism's insatiable, global reach. Even the potato, the most common and humble staple of the Dutch diet, was brought from Peru.</div>

Kenmerkend voor Yasja's werk is het kleurgebruik en de verschillende lichtelementen zoals de 'lichtflitsen'.</div>

Herzogenrath Bergerstraße

<div>Most artists would find this huge mural (43 ft by 131 ft) a challenge, but not for Hendrik Beikirch. His black and white portrets are his worldwide trademark. He even painted skyscrapers in China and the US. In recent years Heerlen changed from mining town into a new modern city. This man symbolizes that with his powerfull glance is his eyes. He isn't giving up.</div>

<div>This is Gaia's third mural in the Oude Kerkstraat in Schandelen. This time he's showing us the beginning and end of the coal mining in Limburg. You can see Joop den Uyl addressing an audiene inside the Stadsschouwburg Heerlen, on December 1, 1965, announcing the end of the coal mining. Instead of featuring the politician, the figure is cut-out, exposing a scene from the demolition of the Lange Jan smoke stacks that once dominated the local landscape.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Lastplak is an artist collective from Rotterdam in which everyone has his or her specific artistic background. It doesn't matter which subsurface, size or location, there main goal is to paint. A selection of them is responsible for this collective effort.</div>

<div>Lars Ickenroth aka LAICK could do whatever he pleased with this tricky location. The walls (taluds) are far from easy to work on since they are in a 45 degree angle. Hat tip to LAICK for completing this baby. He chose playing cards as a method to express his view on city landmarks. Kids in the neighbourhood were invited to create their own coins by painting a drawing on each coin.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Heerlen is home to a lot of murals. Oh really? Yes. So, in foundation Cuttin' Class' spirit (helping kids), they went to table with maintenance department of Heerlen. The result is this huge free writing area for younger or older talents. In 2018 Getting Up Foundation invited a lot of international graffiti writers for the Unframed expo. They also ate there heart out at the hall of fame so go check it out.</div>

<div>His animalistic murals appear all over the city's walls in his hometown of Antwerp. His murals are also breathing life into abandoned urban places all across Europe. Unfortunately they broke down the artwork in August 2018 because the building is going to be demolished.<br><br></div>

<div>Another one of James Jetlag x GoMad creation for Kleur Onderweg. Hollands biggest overpass mural projects. The idea was to promote the city on one side of the overpass and to honor the miners that worked their butts of in the now closed mines.&nbsp;</div>

<div>The biggest inspiration for this mural is the location, Zuyderland medical center.</div>

<div>The creators were inspired by the mining history of Heerlen. Miners took a little bird underground when mining to detect potential gasleaks. When the bird fell down, it was a warning for the miners to get the h*ll out of there. In 2016 this mural won the Wonderwall award during the first edition of the Dutch Street Art Awards.</div>

<div>Born and raised out of chaotic environment (street culture), developing into a real city with ambitions (Maankwartier building). According to the artist Lars Ickenroth, Heerlen is a city where both chaos and order rule. In the middle of all this are the people that live here. This mural is inspired by the book 'Metamorphose' of Ovidius.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Boris Tellegen aka Delta heeft samen met zijn kompaan Lester aan de achterzijde van de Nieuwe Nor in vier dagen tijd deze muurschildering gerealiseerd. De titel IRL, In Real Life, zegt denk ik al voldoende over de betekenis van het werk, of niet?</div>

<div>Sinds 9 maart 2022 is de expositie van Keith Haring te bekijken in Schunck. Timo Aspers voelde zich geïnspireerd door de werken van Keith Haring en maakte verschillende kunstwerkjes in de stad. Wil jij nu ook deze kunstwerkjes tegen komen? Loop dan de route van het station naar Schunck en je komt ze vanzelf tegen.</div>

<div>In samenwerking met Stichting Street Art en Heerlen Mijn Stad heeft Heerlense kunstenaar Dazetwo deze 'Get Out' muurschildering gerealiseerd. De vogels representeren de huidige maatschappij waarin iedereen de top probeert te bereiken, zonder na te denken over de gevoelens van anderen. De vogel aan de top is aan deze gekte ontsnapt, maar heeft dat alleen in ziel kunnen doen.</div>

<div>Eelco 'Virus' van den Berg is a multidisciplinary street artist from Rotterdam. His distinctive style draws inspiration from 'the hip hop virus', as he calls it, which refers primarily to the emergence of graffiti. His art is distinguished by its strong use of colors and lines, combined with highly decorative elements.</div>

<div>Mural 'The stranger' was part of the openingsact of our beloved Cultura Nova 2008 (very interesting arts, music, theatre festival in and around the city). The really cool part of it was a translation of this work to a life size balloon character (think of Macy's Parade in the states). Many people will remember that night as one of the most special kickoff acts of Cultura Nova Festival.</div>

<div>A mural to mourn for a special artist, father and inspirator for friends; Remi Vervloet, unfortunately died in 2012. As a young boy, he played soccer across the street from this painting. Growing up in this part of Heerlen, he was a familiar guy in Bekkerveld. 'People probably see all types of stuff in this painting we created by heart' says Dave de Leeuw.'But thats the way Remi also used to work. Some details might be intense for friends and family, like the big bear head.' Hans Keuls painted the big pond full of sunflowers with their heads hanging down. This is the kind of symbol that seems to fit Remi, Hans says. 'A field of tulips wouldn't work. This image is confronting and raises a certain level of tension.'&nbsp;</div>

The ten members come from a graffiti background and focus on high quality character design in unique recognizable styles. Artist like Nychos, Frau Isa, DXTR and Cone are a few of the members. <div>In his work Francisco Rodrigues da Silva aka Nunca ('never' in Portuguese) is mixing the native Brazilian culture with the modern society. This is his way of showing us that the natives don't have a connection with the world that we're living in right now. This subject is his main inspiration in all of his work. Right now&nbsp; it's even more relevant than it was before because politics are talking about it a lot.</div>
