Venus, goddess of love, prepares to take a bath.

Ozmo's mural in Heerlen, focusing on Venus taking a bath, is a direct homage to the city’s rich Roman history, particularly its ancient bathhouse. Heerlen is home to the remains of a Roman bathhouse, one of the best-preserved in the Netherlands, and the mural ties into this heritage by depicting the Roman goddess of love, Venus, in a bathing scene. The mural connects the city's modern identity with its ancient past, reinforcing the significance of water and bathing in Roman culture.

By choosing Venus as the central figure, Ozmo not only alludes to the tradition of public baths, which were social and communal spaces in Roman times, but also highlights the goddess’s associations with beauty and fertility. His interpretation places Venus in a contemporary visual context, surrounded by modern elements that bridge the ancient world with today’s urban environment. This approach echoes the fusion of history and modernity that the Museum Murals project aims to achieve, enhancing the cultural significance of Heerlen’s Roman bathhouse and allowing passersby to experience the city’s layered history in a new way.

At the initiative of the Mauritshuis , a very special street art project started in 2024: Museum Murals. On 20 walls throughout the Netherlands, 20 street artists will create a new life-size work of art, inspired by a painting, object or story from the collections of 20 different museums.
