Medianeras21. MedianerasVanesa Galdeano and Analí Chanquía have been creating art in the public space for more than 14 years. Brought together by shared concerns for urban space and public art, they began producing work together 9 years ago. They created a unifying project called | MEDIANERAS | to expand and link their production. | MEDIANERAS | is the Spanish word for ‘side walls’. Unlike the walls, which are only responsible for separating the spaces, the side walls are those shared between neighbours. This concept interests them because they believe that public art, besides making cities more beautiful, claims the idea of a shared place – of all individuals. They believe public art does more than just beautify cities, it offers a shared space that brings individuals and communities together. Through public art, they want to alter the urban landscape and shift the way we typically perceive spaces. Fundamental to this is the need to move, tour cities and carry out their work in urban contexts around the world. So far, they have created public art together in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza, Florianópolis), Argentina (Buenos Aires, Rosario, San Juan, Villa Constitución), Bolivia (La Paz), México (Hollbox, Bacalar), UK (London), Germany (Wiesbaden, Chemnitz, Heidelberg, Wuppertal), Austria (Vienna), Portugal (Lisbon, Covilha, Cascais. Loures), Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Salamanca, Fanzara, La Bañeza, Valencia, Cheste, Tejeda de Tietar, Alberique, Alcoy, Galicia), Thailand (Bangkok), Australia (Melbourne, Brisbane), Uruguay (Mercedes), Belgium (Brussels, Geel, Ostend), Canada (Vancouver, Quebec), France (Morlaix, Briançon), Italy (Palermo, Padova, Milan), Norway (Oslo) and among others.
Tymon de Laat29. Tymon de LaatTymon de Laat finds the fuel for his art in the streets of his hometown, Rotterdam, to which he feels indebted, as well as Latin American culture. This influence is the result of a one-year trip to Latin America that Tymon de Laat undertook shortly after graduating from the Willem de Kooning Academy. With little money but rich in ideas, the artist had many encounters, which were enough to durably impact his restless mind, and totally shift his vision of the world and his relationship to visual art. Today, each of his creations (mostly canvas paintings and murals) bears the mark of this culturally mixed approach, since this Dutch artist paints portraits of people he has photographed during his trips. He thus turns these anonymous people into heroes of everyday life, or at least into the symbol of wealth of multiculturalism, represented in a deliberately magnified way through swirling patterns and bright colours. What captures the viewer’s attention is less the individual person than the beauty of their culture painted in places least expected, less the soft benevolence in their eyes than Tymon de Laat’s quickly identifiable style. You can find, for example, the portrait of a young Laotian girl in the streets of Carlisle in North England: or a Cuban tobacco farmer painted in the Straat Museum in Amsterdam. The artists sensitivity, sense of storytelling and detail bring his work beyond representation towards emotion. Words by Maxime Delcourt for GraffitiArt Magazine
Tim Marsh33. Tim MarshGeometrical acrobatics. Born in Paris in 1984, TIM MARSH is an urban artist who currently lives and works in Barcelona. He started by becoming passionate about extreme sports at the age of 5, and joined the roller-skating community in 1996, at the age of 12. He then practiced capoeira for 15 years and draws a large part of his inspiration from this period, exploring tribal motives in the graffiti works he produced during this time. In 2006 he moved into the fashion industry as creator of trends for clothing brands, experimented light painting in 2009 and directed the fashion pages for Snatch Magazine at the same time until 2011. The artist has developed a very personal architectural style, composing his works on the basis of complex and dynamic geometric forms, patterns and lines which embed movement within the depths of his two-dimensional works. His creations provoke a theatrical mood taking a palette of retro-style colors which he applies with spray cans, brushes and markers. His compositions are characterized by the mixture and variety of techniques, developing the work by the use of specific materials and medium such as tape, stencils or even paint jars in his most recent work. Tim Marsh is constantly developing his techniques, trying out new supports, experimenting his creative process and echoing his past experience in extreme sports by painting on surf and skateboards or other objects. Inspired by urban spaces he went on to expressing his iconography in large-size format on walls and other street supports. Since then, he has exhibited his art in France, Malta, Spain, Hong Kong and have worked with brands like L’Oréal, Smart Cars and Kenzo.
Giulio Rosk34. Giulio RoskThe artist is Giulio Gebbia, known as Rosk, born in 1988, one of the most prolific street artists of his generation. His style, a perfect blend of hyperrealism and dreamlike elements, has made his works unmistakable, scattered across the walls of cities worldwide, such as Miami, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, New York, Bristol, and more. For several years, he worked as part of the duo "Rosk&Loste," with whom he entered the world of Graffiti Advertising, creating works for renowned international brands like Gucci, Ceres, Axa Insurance, Averna, Philadelphia, SEAT X Vanity Fair at the Milan Furniture Fair, and producing artistically significant pieces that have already become iconic, such as the Falcone and Borsellino mural at the Cala in Palermo. He has carried out artistic projects for the "Semedorato" Brewery, "La Vite" Winery, and Salov Spa. For them, he decorated tanks used in the production processes of beer, wine, and oil, aiming to transform their production sites into true "open-air canvases" that integrate seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, contributing to bringing beauty both inside and outside the production facilities. He has also created works celebrating sports achievements, such as those for the Serie A TIM teams Atalanta and Spal, located in the outskirts of Bergamo and Ferrara, with the goal of urban regeneration through the union of art and football. Additionally, he collaborated with Cesare Cremonini, a famous Italian pop singer, on a project titled *Io Vorrei*, painting in the outskirts of three different Italian cities: Palermo, Naples, and Rome. His style, thanks to his profound technical knowledge, lends itself perfectly to the creation of works conceived in every detail, with a clear and captivating message that easily communicates and leaves an indelible impression.
Conse39. ConseConse Andechaga is a multidisciplinary, self-taught plastic artist based in Barcelona. From a very young age, Conse has been part of Hip Hop culture. At the beginning of his career in 2007, he began using different firms in the world of graffiti, while also developing as a music producer, Master of Ceremonies (MC) and DJ. During 2008 and 2009 he established CONSE, the firm with which he has developed his entire professional career in the art of graffiti. This marked the introduction of a self-discipline that until then did not exist and continues to investigate further the operation and history of this art. During 2009-2010 he lived in a village outside Barcelona, where he began activities with other artists in the surrounding area, such as interventions in abandoned spaces such as factories, party walls and train tracks. Next came collaboration with institutions in public spaces where activities related to the culture of graffiti were carried out, along with helping the initiation of other artists. In this period he created his own technique in letters as well as adding elements of realism which he would develop in the future. At the end of 2010 he returned to Barcelona where he continued his artistic activity. Between 2012 and 2013 he partially ceased his activity on the street and focused on the development of the technique of realism in charcoal, oil, acrylic, spray, among other techniques of the plastic arts that he would later take back to the streets of Barcelona and other cities, both national and international. 2014 is a year that marks a radical change in his career as he returned to make pieces on the city walls. Applying the technique of realism evolved with its own style that continues to improve day by day. Since then Conse has been travelling throughout countries like United States, Australia, Netherlands, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Germany, among others, participating in various events and exhibitions related to urban art, with a future projection in the realisation of big walls while making his own works for collections and private exhibitions.
