This vibrant artwork by Bebar unfolds across a black background as a dense network of curving, interwoven forms.
French artist Mathias Mendez, known as Bebar, combines influences from graffiti culture with academic art training. He studied at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and Parsons School of Design in New York. His work is characterised by the interplay between figuration and abstraction, alongside an intense, high-contrast colour palette.
The work is associated with an exhibition or temporary installation in the historic setting of Laon's Abbey of Saint-Martin. Contemporary art exhibitions are held in the abbey's cloister and adjoining spaces.
