Description

This colourful, surrealist mural is populated by whimsical characters and the distinctive penguin figures that have become a hallmark of Alëxone Dizac's work. Its unusual creatures, humorous elements and cartoon-like visual language create a fantastical world somewhere between the animal kingdom and human society.

Alëxone Dizac, whose real name is Alexandre Dizac, is an established figure in the French urban art scene. Drawing on his early experiences with graffiti, he developed a distinctive visual language from the 1990s onwards, combining influences from comics, illustration and painting. His imaginative repertoire of characters includes a wide variety of animals, most notably anthropomorphic penguins. Appearing in ever-changing roles and unusual situations, these figures have become one of the defining features of his artistic identity.

The work is associated with the 2023 Festival International des Arts Urbains de Laon. The festival's second edition brought together 20 international street artists, who created new works throughout the city. Alongside these outdoor projects, an exhibition of original artworks by participating artists opened in the cloister gallery of Abbaye Saint-Martin on 24 June 2023. The historic abbey thus became a setting for contemporary urban art.
