The Gothic western façade of Notre-Dame de Laon Cathedral is the subject of this large-scale drawing by French urban artist IEMZA. He combines close observation of a historic building with a gestural, contemporary visual language. The portrait format and generous expanse of paper reinforce the cathedral’s monumental presence.
IEMZA lives and works in Reims. His artistic practice draws, among other influences, on science-fiction films, B-movies and the architecture of large residential developments.
This drawing was created in June 2022 and measures 220 × 150 cm. It is displayed at Abbaye Saint-Martin, a historic abbey complex in Laon.
