The work by Tunisian artist Shoof (Hosni Hertelli) brings traditional Arabic calligraphy into a contemporary visual language shaped by gesture, movement and abstraction. As a practitioner of calligraffiti, he takes written characters beyond their conventional linguistic and formal structures.
The work is associated with an temporary installation in the historic setting of Laon's Abbey of Saint-Martin. Contemporary art exhibitions are held in the abbey's cloister and adjoining spaces, including areas associated with the Bibliothèque Suzanne-Martinet.
