The West-Kruiskade contains sounds and scents that have traveled a long way. Everyone who crosses your path on the streets tells a different story and brings diversity from all around the globe. This community transforms and elevates this space into one of Rotterdam’s most visited and highly commercial areas. That same community was the reason for our start as a cultural initiative.
The Rotterdam Street Art Museum was born from the need to elevate and transform a place that was once associated with the negative impact of violence and drugs. In an area known for social housing, we saw an opportunity to not only reimagine the space but also make art truly accessible. By bringing a museum to the streets, we ensured that residents could engage with quality art productions right outside their doors, and visitors would be drawn in to experience the authentic pulse of the city.
But the Rotterdam Street Art Museum wouldn’t reach its full potential if it stayed confined to a single zone of the city. The project will continue to expand across different locations in Rotterdam, championing street art in every corner. But our roots remain deeply tied to the Oude Westen neighborhood and its people. Because here, the murals don’t just brighten walls. They shine even brighter in the spirit of the community that surrounds them.
