This portrait in Lisbon is a perfect example of Jorit's visual language, an artist who has consolidated a unique style where pictorial hyperrealism merges with social activism and anthropology.

Below, we detail how this mural relates to its author's artistic constants:

1. The Large-Scale Hyperrealistic Portrait

Jorit's specialty is the close-up portrait, taken to monumental dimensions.

Impeccable technique: Despite using spray paint and acrylic on a rough, exposed surface like an urban wall, Jorit achieves a skin texture, a depth in the gaze, and a handling of light and shadow characteristic of classical oil painting.

Focus on the gaze: By eliminating the context, the landscape, or the subject's body, the artist forces the viewer to connect directly with the eyes and expression of the character, generating a powerful empathetic connection.

2. The Signature of the "Human Tribe"

The most recognizable element of Jorit's style is the two red lines across the cheeks of his characters.

Origin: They are inspired by the scarification rituals of certain African tribes, which mark the passage from childhood to adulthood and membership in the group.

Meaning in his work: Jorit reinterprets this concept to create the "Human Tribe." By marking both famous figures (such as Diego Maradona or Nelson Mandela) and ordinary people, the artist conveys the message that, beyond race, social class, or nationality, all human beings are equal and belong to the same global community.

3. Graffiti as a Tool for Hidden Messages

Jorit's style is not purely aesthetic; it is profoundly conceptual and political.

Although at first glance it appears to be a photographic portrait, the artist often camouflages text using tagging techniques (graffiti signatures) or words written in the initial layers of paint.

These hidden messages often include quotes from philosophers, political slogans, or the real name of the person portrayed, reinforcing the identity and history of the subject behind the image.

4. Reclaiming the Peripheries and Public Space

For Jorit, the canvas is the street. His style seeks to democratize art by bringing open-air galleries to areas often ignored by traditional art circuits (such as working-class neighborhoods in Naples or, in this case, the walls of a psychiatric hospital in Lisbon). The sheer scale of his work aims to transform the urban environment and restore dignity to public spaces and the people who inhabit them.
