The Quintessence

Description

This mural by the artist Carl Kenz is about 50 metres long. It was completed in 2023. ‘The Quintessence’ shows a turquoise three-eyed figure at the centre, surrounded by purple tentacular forms, vegetation and a multicoloured, radiating pattern.

On his website Ars Vivenda Kenz himself writes about his impressive piece of art:

The Quintessence, the fifth element, also known as Ether, is a concept deeply rooted in the history of alchemy. It is the essence underlying the four classical elements – earth, water, air and fire. The alchemists believed that through the transformation and purification of these elements, true being could be revealed. Alchemy itself is an ancient practice that encompasses both scientific and spiritual aspects. It strove to unlock the mystery of life and understand the connection between humans and the cosmos. Its story is a journey through ages and cultures, from Egyptian temples to medieval European laboratories.

The quintessence or the Ether symbolizes the unknown, the unattainable. It is the subtle material of the universe that permeates and connects all things. It is the bridge between the physical and the spiritual, between the visible and the invisible. The true being is not something we can achieve or acquire. It is not a destination or end point of our journey. True being is the core of our existence, it is our innermost self beyond all illusions and deceptions. It is pure awareness that witnesses our lives. Awakening to this true being is a process of self-knowledge and transformation. It requires courage and dedication because it means questioning all of our ideas and beliefs. It means breaking through the veils of ignorance and seeing the light of truth. This awakening is not only a personal experience but also a collective one. It is an evolutionary step for all of humanity. In a world marked by conflict and division, awakening to our true being is the path to healing and harmony. The Quintessence, the Ether, the Alchemy, the History – they are all pieces of the same puzzle. They are paths to discovering our true being and awakening. They are invitations to delve deeper into the mystery of life and explore the wonders of our existence.
