'El ensueño de la Dama Roja'

Description

The Dream of the Red Lady

The Dream of the Red Lady was conceived as a symbolic revelation: this year, we wanted to unveil the identity of the Paleolithic girl that IKR painted during the previous edition of Alegra la Vista, connecting her to one of the most fascinating figures of Cantabrian prehistory: the Red Lady of the Cave of El Mirón.

Inspired by a woman who lived around 19,000 years ago and whose remains were discovered buried and covered in red ochre pigment, alongside traces of flower pollen and spores, the artwork imagines her presence as an open symbol: perhaps a clan matriarch, perhaps an artist, perhaps a spiritual woman, or perhaps all of these at once.

In the mural, the Red Lady holds a flame in her hands. Its light illuminates the entrance to the courtyard as if it were the mouth of a cave. From the rising smoke emerge the ancestral animals of the clan, appearing as a vision, a memory, or a protective ritual. In this way, The Dream of the Red Lady transforms the façade into a threshold between past and present, between the memory of the land and the collective imagination.

Linked to Luz Ancestral, the mural created by IKR during the previous edition of the festival, this work completes a symbolic narrative by revealing the adult identity of the Paleolithic girl portrayed in the earlier piece.
