The famous sons and daughters of the city of Mönchengladbach are hardly known to many. You come across them by street or square names, but hardly anyone really knows who exactly they are.
This is also the case with Hans Jonas !

That should change within the framework of projects, because both the history of a city or a district and well-known citizens create identity and make a city what it is.
Who was Hans Jonas actually and what did he achieve?

His book “The Responsibility Principle” was published as early as 1979. In it he addresses the question of how we as humanity should deal with our natural foundations. Much of what is discussed today about sustainability and climate change was anticipated around 40 years ago by Jonas - and with this work he is still highly topical today. “The Responsibility Principle” was a bestseller in German-speaking countries in the early 1980s, and then a global success.
Hans Jonas was born in Mönchengladbach in 1903. The house where he was born is on Mozartstrasse - almost within sight of the graffiti.

Jonas was a member of the Jewish brigade (which, by the way, consisted not only of Jews, but also of Palestinians) during World War II, which found all kinds of Nazis in hiding and mostly liquidated them directly!</pre><div><br></div>

The last work on the facade of the BrauHaus MaNaMaNa took place on Friday, April 16. 
There is now a piece of Mönchengladbach football history on the outside wall of the official Borussia fan bar. The over 120 m² motif of the work of art, which is a mix of polygon design and realistic elements, shows Günther Netzer in the 1973 cup triumph over arch rivals from Cologne. That game in which Netzer substituted himself. "I'll play now." Netzer said and ran onto the pitch. Two touches of the ball later he scored the decisive 2-1.

48 years later, Hauke ​​Jakob, operator of MaNaMaNa, said: “I'll do it now.” After Borussia got the “Go”. The result is more than impressive and has already become an integral part of Mönchengladbach's old town.

Jakob owes his “new facade” to the Mönchengladbach mural artist Philipp Kömen (34). Mönchengladbach on the move: New residential areas are emerging, central locations are being redesigned. Right in the middle of it all, the Waldhausener. The great nightlife district of the 1970s got a little on the dog. Seven murals are supposed to “show differently” and “work differently”. <pre>"Friendship is the key to peace", Sittardstr. 42, Mönchengladbach by Max Kamundi @ max.kamundi.5 from Ndanda / Tanzania and Peter Weißkopff from Mönchengladbach, who unfortunately is no longer with us (he suddenly died on November 1st, 2008 at the age of 52) and the students of the Gladbacher Paul-Moor-Schule - a school for children with mental and physical disabilities.

The project was created 21 years ago during a worldwide campaign in cooperation with the One World Shop as part of Unesco's "Agenda 21" #muralglobal.

The huge painting should be an eye-catcher and bring color and fantasy into the rather gray urban dreariness. This approach can also be found in the picture itself.

Even today it still attracts attention. Anyone who not only sees it in passing, but pauses for a moment and looks closely, recognizes the vision of life in the “One World”, in which separations of skin color, origin, worldview, etc. have been overcome. In the middle of the work of art you can see a green triangle.

It stands for a keyhole through which one can see a piece of a peaceful world. The key to this is friendship between very different people: it is the prerequisite for a sustainable peace, as the title of the mural suggests.</pre><div><br></div>

Steffen Mumm alias Hoker One was enthusiastic and fascinated by handwriting, calligraphy and illustration even as a schoolboy. (Unfortunately, calligraphy was never my thing!) At some point, mere drawing on paper was no longer enough for him, so the murals were a logical consequence. An artist who is also in demand in advertising!

Can humans manage to restore the balance of nature? Personally, I have my doubts about this, but one must not give up hope!
As a Mönchengladbacher, Steffen is closely connected to the culture of his city! </pre><div><br></div><pre>Of course, the logo for the entire campaign comes from him too!</pre><div><br></div>
