486. RIQSomewhere in 2005, I started doing graffiti in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This was my first experience with artistic expression in the public space. Long before this happend I was drawing already. As a child, drawing kept me away from the reality and its pressure. Nowadays it still does. Next to creating murals, which is my focus at the moment, I animate, illustrate and create public interventions. It became an obsession in which I feel blissful when working on a piece. The child who started all this is still present in current work and person. I have a strong belief that one should cherish his inner child. To challenge its curiosity which keeps the mind young.
Human behavior is something I like to observe. This often leads to a counter reaction u can find in my work. Not so much on the surface but symbolic naive and abstract. For example behavior on social media, where not the quality of the work matters but the quantity of posts, followers and likes. In my opinion its the opposite which counts.
For 7 months my wife, me and two cats have been traveling trough Europe in a camper. During this tour it was my aim to paint as much as walls as possible. This led us to a lot of abandoned areas and cultural communities. Also in Barcelona. Being able to paint at so many different places kept me challenging myself to experiment and discover. At the moment I find it interesting to find a way in which I can make and present my work as pure as possible. These days it is a trend to be very busy. That's not for me.
Of course I like to work on large assignments and I want to paint more facades of apartment buildings. As long as I feel the urge and it makes me happy to create I will continue.

491. Raquel CobaVisual artist and muralist, she conceives painting as a form of reconciliation between earth and concrete, memory and the present. Her work engages with the urban environment to remind us that nature is not outside the city: it inhabits, infiltrates and resists, finding in each mural a space from which to keep growing.
492. Davor SmoljanDavor Smoljan is an artist whose work explores themes of our individual and collective place in the world, based on mankind's cultural and sociological heritage and its influence throughout time. Everyday imagery from the streets that seem to go unnoticed to most is what attracts him towards finding and creating a connection with a place, a moment, an object or a person. Through his artworks, he portrays a visual storytelling in which he strives for contextual relevance by painting these faces and these exact moments in a highly realistic manner. Therein, he aims to emphasize the beauty within simplicity of everyday life and its natural, unmasked course of existence within our time.
As an artist, his approach towards his work allows him to explore each and every concept to its fullest potential during which he always aims to combine an initial idea with the process itself. The raw and spontaneous element -both literally and figuratively- of collecting images and memories from the streets often play an intricate part in his creations and within these depictions, his work conveys a message of his fascination with the transience of all things in life. A hyper focus, a zoom-in on the many faces and places and the connection within those very experiences is essentially depicted in his murals and his paintings.
Davor's studio and gallery work therefore usually consists of a presentation of artworks consisting of oil paintings on canvas, paintings on raw and authentic materials, and graphite pencil drawings on paper. His mural work is mostly created by using paint & brushes.
Davor Smoljan was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (1981) and has been living in The Netherlands since 1993, fleeing the turmoil of the country’s war with his parents and his sister. He currently resides here with his wife and daughter and works from his home studio.
493. MATTEZI'm MATTEZ. Artist for murals & wall paintings, street art & graffiti - I am a musician, hip hop artist & rapper 🎤 🎼
I live from art and for art, can express myself through my music & show feelings & can create moods with my paintings or process my own 🌈
I value a certain impact in art, both in other’s and in my own. The wow factor, the little details that give a work that certain something, the highlight. Whether it's a song or a painting, an entire album, a music video, a huge mural or a digital graphic... It has to leave an impression, have an impact.
There is a lot of love for detail, time, dedication, growth and learning processes, teamwork and a wide range of emotions in each of my works.
Yes, of course… As an artisan, I am also a service provider in a way, at least to a certain level. I like to paint my customers beautiful motifs on their walls. I prefer to avoid mass production, simple copies or simply things that I don't enjoy.
I used to work as a master painter and gained a lot of experience designing houses and apartments. Since 2019 I have been working exclusively as an artist. I have been active with my favorite painting tool, the spray can, since the nineties. But it was only after a burnout and a reinvention that I learned professional art painting and was able to take everything to a new level.
494. Jagung I am Kong Chak Kiong, you may also know me as my artist name, ‘Jagung’. Born in 1991, I am a travel artist and self-taught artist from Malaysia. My art medium is spray paint and my styles are 3D realistic objects and portraits. Since 2015, I have been learning murals painting by myself. I love to travel around the world to paint as many walls as possible. Traveling replenishes my mind, body and soul, it also inspires me artistically when I learn about new places and cultures. Without any tertiary education, I broaden my horizons with new knowledge and experiences from traveling. For me, traveling is like painting a portrait. I enjoy spending time observing every little detail of the environment and people around me. What I enjoy the most is the process when I perfect every detail in my mural. Starting a mural from scratch, playing with the warm and cool colours and gradually turning it into a 3D mural gives me a great sense of accomplishment. If you notice, I like to invert the colors in my mural so that the whole composition looks less boring, I call this my ‘showstopper’ technique. I always keep an open mind to opinions and criticisms on my murals and enjoy connecting with artists to improve myself on my journey of painting. Learning is an endless process and it is important for my personal growth.
496. Mélissa FolletEmotion is the heart of my work. I see it as the genesis of a connection between two elements. Emotion must be strong to create an intense connection and generate a powerful impact.
It is this emotional process that I seek to reveal by representing the Living. We have something unique in our gaze. Something true. Something pure. Something that, at times, we humans have lost by distancing ourselves from the Living; yet, we are still part of it...
By appropriating the technique of chiaroscuro and painting on a black background, I aim to capture an emotion, a sensation, a feeling that the viewer will interpret intimately. Through this emotion—so pure, so powerful—I seek to capture attention. I aim to show what we have tended to forget, ignore, hide, or silence.
Throughout history, humans have always gathered and mobilized around shared stories. I believe it is through emotion that these stories are created and internalized. I want to contribute to the narrative of the Living, for the Living.
