<div>Beaucoup d’artistes urbains travaillent sous la forme d’un Collectif, c’est notamment le cas ici avec Jana &amp; Js qui peignent ensemble depuis 2006. Ensemble, ils créent des peintures murales polychromées de tailles très variées. Ils utilisent la technique du pochoir (développée auprès d’artiste-ouvrier au sein du collectif wca), reposant exclusivement sur leur travail photographique. Leurs sources principales d’inspiration sont les villes et leurs habitants. On retrouve d’ailleurs dans leurs peintures des éléments architecturaux ou des paysages urbains qui viennent se mêler à un portrait. Ils se concentrent désormais sur la nostalgie, la mélancolie. Après avoir passé un certain temps à Madrid, en Espagne, où ils se sont rencontrés et avoir vécu quelques années à Paris, Jana &amp; Js sont maintenant installés à Salzbourg en Autriche. Ils débutent leur carrière en intervenant dans des espaces inattendus, en imprimant des pochoirs sur les infrastructures publiques, le plus souvent sur des espaces en construction ou démantelés, comme les voies ferrées, les vieux bâtiments, les poteaux, les morceaux de béton, les vieux camions, les piles de bois… Ils se laissent sans cesse inspirer par les endroits où ils interviennent, tachant de déchiffrer la signification sociale des paysages urbains. Mais ce qui est le plus frappant dans leurs oeuvres, ce ne sont pas tant les panoramas eux-mêmes que les gens qu’ils représentent avec leur malaise existentiel. Ils ont une façon unique de relier les gens, leurs émotions, leurs désirs et leurs préoccupations à leur environnement direct. Autrement dit, les interventions urbaines qu’ils réalisent fusionnent, provoquant des réflexions et engageant les spectateurs dans un dialogue artistique.<br>&nbsp;L’une des particularités de Mons est d’avoir conservé un patrimoine immobilier important datant du 18èmeet 19ème siècle. Si nous prenons le temps d’observer les façades de Mons en intramuros, nous constatons rapidement qu’un nombre important de ces anciennes demeures présentent la particularité de façade avec des fenêtres murées, plus précisément de fausses fenêtres. Cet élément typique de l’architecture que l’on retrouve également abondement en France, à Paris notamment, est apparu à la fin du 18ème siècle suite à un impôt promulgué sous l’occupation française entre 1795-1815. Mise en place par le Directoire en 1798, précisément, la taxe s’applique sur les portes et les fenêtres donnant sur les rues, cours ou jardins des bâtiments et usines, sur tout le territoire de la République. La taxe porte donc sur le nombre de portes et de fenêtres que compte l’habitation. Les habitants n’ont donc pas attendu bien longtemps avant de condamner, tout bonnement, certaines de leurs fenêtres. Les montois n’ont pas fait exception. Beaucoup d’artistes de rue ont saisi cette particularité urbaine pour en faire le sujet de leur intervention, c’est le cas ici avec Jana&amp;Js. La fenêtre chez ce duos d’artistes est en effet un élément essentiel dans leur démarche artistique. Ce qui est particulier ici, c’est que nous ne cernons pas bien où commence ni où se termine la fresque, tant un jeu narratif subtil s’installe entre l’architecture, l’espace urbain et le sujet-même de l’oeuvre. Il faut dès lors considérer l’ensemble de la façade comment faisant partie intégrante d’un dispositif surréaliste que les artistes installent, en floutant cette frontière naturelle entre le monde réel et le monde imaginaire ; nousmêmes sommes partie-prenante de cette fresque installée sur le coin d’une rue, au premier étage d’une ancienne demeure de Mons - Ville berceau du surréalisme belge, au demeurant. En effet, la composition de l’image bouleverse le sens de l’interprétation : la vue de la façade de l’Hôtel de Ville, situé à quelques centaines de mètres, apparaît à l’intérieure de la maison, à échelle grandeur nature. La fenêtre a ici cessé de séparer l’intérieur de l’extérieur. De plus, les deux personnages en avant plans participent à ce même trouble entre rêve et réalité ; habillés comme vous et moi, nous les surprenons de la rue, au sein de leur intérieur, dans une attitude mélancolique et rêveuse… L’esthétique picturale n’est pas l’essentielle ; ici, nous ressentons bien que l’important est ailleurs, dans l’imaginaire… « La fenêtre est un élément essentiel de notre travail, nous expliquent les artistes, ouverture sur le monde ou ouverture sur un monde imaginaire, onirique, intime ou les deux à la fois ? C’est cette double ouverture que nous mettons en scène ici. Dans un jeu surréaliste où l’on voit l’extérieur et l’intérieur à la fois, ces deux fenêtres nous projettent dans la ville, (celle de Mons en l’occurrence), mais aussi dans l’intimité de ces deux personnages».&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Vele stedelijke kunstenaars werken in een collectief. Dat is ook het geval hier met Jana &amp; Js die sinds 2006 samen schilderen. Ze creëren samen veelkleurige muurschilderingen van verschillende groottes. Hierbij gebruiken ze de techniek van het sjabloon (ontwikkeld bij kunstenaars-werkers binnen het collectief wca) dat enkel op hun fotografisch werk steunt. Hun belangrijkste inspiratiebronnen zijn steden en hun inwoners. We vinden trouwens in hun schilderijen architecturale elementen of stedelijke landschappen terug die hun plaats innemen naast het portret. Ze concentreren zich van nu af aan op de nostalgie, de melancholie. Jana &amp; Js hebben eerst een tijdje in Madrid (Spanje) gewoond, waar ze elkaar hebben leren kennen. Daarna volgden enkele jaren in Parijs. Momenteel wonen ze in Salzburg in Oostenrijk. Ze zijn hun carrière begonnen door onverwachte ruimtes in te nemen en sjablonen aan te brengen op openbare infrastructuur, meestal in ruimtes in opbouw of afgebroken ruimtes zoals spoorwegen, oude gebouwen, palen, stukken beton, oude vrachtwagens, stapels hout.... Ze worden onophoudelijk geïnspireerd door de plaatsen waar ze actief zijn, waarbij ze de sociale betekenis van de stedelijke landschappen proberen te ontcijferen. Wat echter het meeste opvalt in hun werk is niet zozeer de panorama’s zelf, maar de mensen die ze afbeelden met hun existentieel onbehagen. Ze hebben een unieke manier om mensen, hun emoties, verlangens en bekommernissen te verbinden met hun directe omgeving. Hun stedelijke acties brengen met andere woorden samen, lokken reflectie uit en betrekken de toeschouwers bij een artistieke dialoog.<br>&nbsp;Typisch voor Mons is dat een aanzienlijk onroerend erfgoed uit de 18de en 19de eeuw bewaard is gebleven. Wanneer we de tijd nemen om de gevels in het centrum van Mons te bekijken, valt het al snel op dat veel oude gebouwen een opmerkelijk kenmerk vertonen, namelijk gevels met dichtgemetselde ramen, of valse ramen om precies te zijn. Dit typische architecturale element, dat we eveneens vaak terugvinden in Frankrijk en vooral in Parijs, verscheen aan het einde van de 18de eeuw als gevolg van een belasting die onder de Franse bezetting tussen 1795 en 1815 uitgevaardigd werd. De belasting werd opgelegd door het Directoire in 1798. Ze is van toepassing op ramen en deuren die op de straat, binnenplaatsen of tuinen van gebouwen en fabrieken uitgeven op het hele grondgebied van de Republiek. Het is dus een belasting op het aantal ramen en deuren van een woning. De inwoners hebben dan ook al snel beslist een aantal ramen op te geven. De inwoners van Mons waren hierbij geen uitzondering. Veel straatkunstenaars benutten dit speciale stedelijke kenmerk. Dat is ook het geval hier voor Jana &amp; Js. Het raam is voor dit kunstenaarsduo een essentieel element in hun artistieke benadering. Wat hier speciaal is, is dat het niet zo duidelijk is waar de muurschildering precies begint of eindigt. Er vindt een subtiel narratief spel plaats tussen architectuur, stedelijke ruimte en het onderwerp zelf van het werk. De volledige gevel moet dus opgevat worden als een integraal deel van een surrealistisch mechanisme dat door de kunstenaars gebruikt wordt. De natuurlijke grens tussen de werkelijke wereld en de wereld van de verbeelding vervaagt hierdoor; wij worden op deze manier betrokken bij deze muurschildering. Ze bevindt zich op de hoek van een straat op de eerste verdieping van een oude woning in Mons, dat trouwens de geboortestad van het Belgische surrealisme is. De samenstelling van het beeld verandert de zin van de interpretatie: het zicht op de gevel van het stadhuis, dat zich een paar honderd meter verder bevindt, is levensgroot zichtbaar binnen in het huis. De raam scheidt hier niet langer de binnenkant van de buitenkant. Bovendien maken de twee personages op het voorplan deel uit van dezelfde vervaging tussen droom en realiteit; ze zijn gekleed zoals u en ik, wij verrassen hen in de straat, binnen in hun interieur, in een melancholieke en dromerige houding... De picturale esthetica is niet de essentie. Wij voelen hier wel aan dat wat werkelijk van belang is zich elders bevindt, in de wereld van de verbeelding. “Het raam is een essentieel element van ons werk,” leggen de kunstenaars uit. “Is het een opening op de buitenwereld, of een opening op de wereld van de verbeelding, van de droom, de intimiteit, of misschien beiden? Het is die dubbele opening die wij hier vormgeven. In een surrealistisch spel waar we nu eens de buitenwereld dan weer de binnenwereld zien, plaatsen deze twee ramen ons in de stad (Mons, in dit geval) maar ook in de innerlijke wereld van deze twee personages.”&nbsp;<br><br>Many urban artists work in the form of a Collective.&nbsp; This is particularly the case here with Jana &amp; Js who have been painting together since 2006. Together, they create polychrome murals of highly varied sizes. They use the stencil technique (developed among artist-workers within the wca collective), based exclusively on their photographic work. Their main sources of inspiration are cities and their inhabitants. Their paintings moreover include architectural elements or urban landscapes that blend into a portrait. They henceforth focus on nostalgia and melancholy. Having spent some time in Madrid, Spain, where they met, and having lived for a few years in Paris, Jana &amp; Js are now settled in Salzburg, Austria. They embarked on their career by putting their imprint in unexpected spaces, printing stencils on public infrastructures, most often on spaces that are under construction or have been dismantled, such as railroad tracks, old buildings, poles, pieces of concrete, old trucks, piles of wood... They are constantly inspired by the places where they work, trying to decipher the social meaning of urban landscapes. The most striking aspect in their works, however,&nbsp; is not so much the panoramas themselves, as the people they represent with their existential malaise. They have a singular way of relating to people, their emotions, desires and concerns about their immediate environment. In other words, the urban interventions they create merge, provoking reflection and engaging viewers in an artistic dialogue.<br>&nbsp;One of the particular traits of Mons is that it has preserved a significant architectural&nbsp; heritage from the 18th and 19th century. If we take the time to observe the facades of Mons within the walls, we quickly notice that a significant number of these old houses boast peculiar facades with walled windows&nbsp; -- false windows to be more precise. This typical architectural element, which can also be found in abundance in France, particularly in Paris, appeared at the end of the 18th century following a tax enacted during the French occupation (1795-1815). Introduced by the Directory in 1798, precisely, the tax applies to doors and windows overlooking the streets, courtyards or gardens of buildings and factories, throughout the territory of the French Republic. The tax thus pertains to the number of doors and windows in a dwelling. The inhabitants did not wait long before they simply walled up some of their windows. The people of Mons were no exception. Many street artists have seized the opportunity to make this urban peculiarity to backdrop of their work, as is the case here with Jana&amp;Js. The window is an essential element in the artistic approach of this artistic duo, in fact. The particular feature here is that we do not really know where the fresco begins or ends, to the extent that a subtle narrative game emerges between the architecture, the urban space and the subject of the work itself. We must therefore consider the entire façade as an integral part of a surrealist device that the artists install, where this natural boundary between the real and imaginary worlds is blurred. We ourselves are part of this fresco installed on a street corner, on the first floor of a former dwelling in Mons - the cradle of Belgian surrealism, incidentally. The composition of the image disrupts the sense of interpretation: the view of the façade of the Town Hall, located a few hundred meters away, appears inside the house, on a life-size scale. The window has here ceased to separate the interior from the exterior. Moreover, the two figures in the foreground contribute to this same confusion between dream and reality. Dressed like you and me, we surprise them from the street, within their interior, in a dreamy, melancholic attitude... The pictorial aesthetics is the essence; here, we&nbsp; realize that what’s important lies elsewhere -- in the imagination... &nbsp; “The window is an essential element of our work,”&nbsp; the artists explain.&nbsp; “Is it an opening onto the physical world or opening to an imaginary, dreamlike, and intimate world, or both at the same time? It is this double opening that we are staging here. In a surrealist game where we see the outside and the inside at the same time. These two windows project us into the city (Mons in this case), but also into the intimacy of these two characters."&nbsp;</div>

<div>Jana &amp; Js are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful couples in the world of street art. After having met in Madrid and having lived and worked together in Paris, they now evolve between Austria and France.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>JS is a former student of Artiste-Ouvrier, and since the beginning of 2007 Jana &amp; Js have developed their work with four hands.&nbsp;<br>The work of these two artists concerns the industrial landscape of France and Europe, its constructions and demolitions, and the look that photographers take on this patrimonial memory to preserve.&nbsp;<br>Thus, Jana &amp; Js combine two major iconographic aspects in the history of the stencil: urban vision through the representation of architecture, and the art of portraiture.&nbsp;<br>They also exert a strong attraction on the Parisian public, which can be explained not only by the quality of their work with universal scope, their strong presence in the streets, and their participation in the Lézarts de la Bièvre 2009, in the 5th and 13th arrondissements.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Fresco realized in February 2011 Curated by Itinerrance Gallerie Paris&nbsp;</div>

It was probably the first such museum in Europe and organized exclusively by volunteers, although it is not a museum in the original sense of the word. During their first year, the MUU gathered artists from all over Croatia to repaint the wall in Branimirova Street. The project moved to the suburbs Dugave in 2011, resulting in over 30 murals from local and international artists, while their work continued in Siget in 2012, having issued the permission to paint the walls of the neighborhoods that were built during Yugoslavian era.
