Bart Smeets, artiestennaam Smates, specialiseerde zich in fotorealistische graffiti. Zijn werken zijn extreem gedetailleerd en bevatten veel reliëf.

Deze muurschildering verbeeldt de ambitie van het Sint Dimpna ziekenhuis waarbij het vooruit wil kijken, met ambitie naar de toekomst. In die toekomst willen ze meer praten over gezondheid dan over ziekte, met de patiënt altijd in het midden. Een toekomst waarin ze ook verder willen kijken dan alleen de stad Geel.

Ze willen voorbij de 'muur' kijken naar de hele Kempen, maar ook verder. Als ziekenhuis willen ze de band met de inwoners en de cultuur van Geel koesteren en versterken. Het hart van Geel staat dan ook centraal in het werk.

Tegelijk kijken ze vol verwachting naar de steeds veranderende toekomst waarin veel zal afhangen van de interactie tussen mens en technologie, vandaar de raket. Daarnaast moet ieders werk iets losmaken, want ze zijn een ziekenhuis voor iedereen. Tenslotte moet de muurschildering natuurlijk ook mooi zijn, zodat we allemaal gelukkiger en een beetje gezonder worden.

This mural depicts St Dimpna Hospital's ambition whereby it wants to look forward, with ambition towards the future. In that future, they want to talk more about health than illness, with the patient always at the centre. A future in which they also want to look beyond just the city of Geel.

They want to look beyond the ‘wall’ to the whole of Kempen, but also beyond. As a hospital, they want to cherish and strengthen the bond with the inhabitants and culture of Geel. The heart of Geel is therefore central to their work.

At the same time, they look expectantly at the ever-changing future in which much will depend on the interaction between people and technology, hence the rocket. In addition, everyone's work should trigger something, as they are a hospital for everyone. Finally, of course, the mural must also be beautiful, so that we all become happier and a bit healthier.
