Kunstwerk gemaakt voor Go Skateboarding Day bij Luxaplast in Marke, Kortrijk.

Luxaplast is dé plek voor de skatecommunity van Kortrijk. Het ligt onder de R8 aan de Markebekestraat. Go Skateboarding Day werd op vrijdag 21 juni 2024 gevierd in dit 600 m² grote straatpark. Op diezelfde dag schilderde Djoels dit skatermeisje op een pilaar van de brug boven het skatepark.
Het evenement ontstond in 2004 in Amerika en verspreidde zich snel naar België. De dag staat in het teken van sport, gemeenschap en vriendschap, en is bovenal een leuk moment om samen te komen in het skatepark en te genieten van skateboarden.

Julie “Djoels” Boeckhuyt (1992) is een Belgische tattoo-artieste, die op 12-jarige leeftijd begon met graffiti. Ze tekent en schildert al haar hele leven. Op 15-jarige leeftijd begon ze te werken in een tattooshop. Djoels groeide op in armoede met alleen haar moeder. Ze haatte school en wilde stoppen, maar haar moeder wilde dat ze haar ‘diploma’ haalde.
Toen ze 19 was, rondde ze haar school af en begon ze direct te werken als tattoo-artiest. Haar eerste geld besteedde ze aan spuitbussen en ze ging werken in een crew, Lost Flammos. Ze had nooit gedacht dat haar werk internationaal zou worden.
Djoels woont en heeft haar tattoo-shop in Pittem (BE).

Luxaplast is the place to be for the Kortrijk skate community. It is located under the R8 on Markebekestraat. Go Skateboarding Day was celebrated at this 600 m² street park on Friday, June 21, 2024. On that same day Djoels painted this skater girl on a pillar of the bridge above the skate park.
The event originated in America in 2004 and quickly spread to Belgium. The day focuses on sport, community, and friendship, and is above all a fun time to gather at the skate park and enjoy skateboarding.

Julie "Djoels" Boeckhuyt (1992) is a Belgian tattoo artist, who started making graffiti when she was 12. She has been drawing and painting her whole life. At the age of 15 she started working in a tattoo shop. Djoels grew up in poverty with only her mom. She hated school and wanted to quit, but her mom wanted her to get her 'diploma'.
When she was 19 years old she finished school and directly started to work as a tattoo artist. Her fist money she spent on spray cans and she started to work in a crew, Lost Flammos. She never imagined her work to go international.
Djoels lives and has her tattoo shop in Pittem (BE).
