Isabel Antonio’s mural Confluentes brings together a colourful river landscape and architectural elements inspired by Koblenz’s history. Bridge arches, a structure reminiscent of a historic castle or palace, and flowing, tree-like forms combine to create an allegorical interpretation of the city and its surroundings. Measuring approximately 3.5 × 1.7 metres, the mural is located on an exterior wall at the end of the arcaded walkway beside the entrance to the City Hotel Kurfürst Balduin.
The title Confluentes refers to the Latin name associated with Koblenz and can be translated as “those who flow together”. It alludes to the meeting of the Rhine and Moselle rivers, which has shaped the city’s identity. According to the artist, the hotel commissioned the work, which was completed in June 2026.
Antonio sees her art as a way of connecting people with one another and with their surroundings. The process of painting in a public space also influenced the creation of the mural. She describes encounters and conversations with passers-by as an inspiring part of the experience, even when they interrupted her work.
By combining river scenery, architecture and freely interpreted natural forms, Confluentes invites viewers to rediscover familiar elements of Koblenz’s urban landscape. The mural is intended not simply to enhance the building, but also to spark curiosity and encourage people to explore the surrounding area with fresh eyes.
