The mural in the underpass on Julius-Wegeler-Straße in Koblenz combines the city's most recognisable landmarks with a playful, imaginative visual world. At its centre, the curved lettering spelling “Koblenz” stands out against a stylised landscape. In the background are the equestrian monument at Deutsches Eck, the cable car crossing the Rhine and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Together, these elements bring several of the city's characteristic landmarks into a single scene.
The cable car plays a particularly distinctive role. It connects the Rhine riverbank near Deutsches Eck with Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, perched high above the river, and is one of Koblenz's best-known tourist attractions.
The grinning fly agaric mushrooms on the left and right edges of the mural provide a playful contrast to the architectural and technical landmarks. Their cheerful faces lend the scene a fairytale quality, bringing nature motifs, the cityscape and tourist attractions together in a colourful composition.
