Charanguista Andino

"For indigenous communities, the process of musical creation constitutes a very particular experience, in which an intermediary participates between the world of the surface and the world of the depths. The musician will “take” the melodies to certain places secrets, next to the springs, to the water currents where divinity manifests itself in the figure of "El Sereno" (Sirinu, Sirina, Mermaid).

El Sereno emerges from the water springs, from the depths and during the night, to receive the offerings that the musicians give him in exchange for new songs and the power that he transfers to the instruments that he plays."

The historical background of the charango is found in the stone portals of the Church of San Lorenzo in the city of Potosí, which began to be built in 1547, where you can see two mermaids playing the charango.
