The national tour “Murais de Liberdade” now has a new stop in Lagos with a new mural, this one about the first free elections, created by the creative duo RUÍDO.
Generically dedicated to the theme of “Freedom”, this artistic initiative revisits the antecedents of April 25th, the historical moments of the revolution and the achievements and possibilities it provided.
In the city of Lagos, the creative duo RUÍDO chose the right to vote as the subtheme of their work, recalling the importance of this democratic achievement.
On the last day of the mural, the artist Draw led two painting workshops , the first with the involvement and active participation of the Lagos Senior University (Lagos Study Centre) and, the second, in interaction with the group of children and young people integrated in the Free Time Occupation project “Living the Summer +IN (inclusive)”.
This initiative, which Lagos City Council joined, marks and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April through the creation of a new urban art route, promoted nationwide by Turismo de Portugal , which connects several locations in the country, representing all regions of the continent and islands.
The 14 murals, created around a common theme, are the creation of the artistic duo RUÍDO, formed by Draw (Frederico Soares Campos) and Alma (Rodrigo Guinea Gonçalves) who set out to paint Freedom throughout the country.
To date, eight works have been completed (São João da Madeira, Bragança, Caldas da Rainha, Vendas Novas, Vila Franca de Xira, Angra do Heroísmo, Castelo de Vide and Lagos), with the remaining four expected to be completed by the end of October.
The Freedom Mural #08 dedicated to the theme “First free elections” can be seen live on the west side façade of the building of the former Basic School No. 2 of Lagos (also known as the former “Firefighters School”), currently loaned to local associations.
