Description

Artist Daniel Ferino (Maltag) is a huge fan of the football club 1. FC Kaiserslautern and has created many art works in and around the Fritz Walter-Stadion to express his love for the club. Fans walking to the stadium pass by this gas control station in Kantstraße. On the larger building there are portraits of two famous players: Werner Liebrich (left) and Ottmar Walter (right). They are connected by the red and white logo of the 1. FCK and the word ‚Traditionsverein‘ (club with a long history).

The smaller building reveals that the 1. FC Kaiserslautern was founded in 1900. The portrait next to the date shows Horst Eckel, another famous player. The leather shoes and the leather ball are a reference to the time Liebrich, Walter and Eckel played: The three of them belong to the so called ‚54er Weltmeister‘, the national German football team winning the world championship in Bern (Switzerland) in 1954. In total, five players from the 1. FCK were part of this team. A seperate mural inside the stadium is dedicated to its captain, to the legendary Fritz Walter.

Daniel Ferino finished his work on the gas control station in August 2025.
