Description

Another commissioned work by Daniel Ferino (Maltag), executed for the municipal sewage department. His chosen motif is fish: a large, orange-and-red-patterned koi swims through stylized blue waves - a visual reference to the Japanese Garden nearby.

On the rear side of the building, a blue pike is leaping out of the red-and-white coat of arms of Kaiserslautern. It is a reference to a famous local legend: in 1497, a pike nearly six meters long - wearing a small golden chain - was reportedly caught in the Kaiserwoog, a large lake in Kaiserslautern. The accompanying inscription suggests that the city's founder, Emperor Frederick II, had released the fish into the lake as early as 1230.
