Artist Linas Kaziulionis’ mural is an interpretation of the famous painting “Madame de Récamier” by the French artist Jacques-Louis David, bearing the intriguing title “Don’t Look for a Corner.” So what is this work inviting us to look for? The answer lies in the drawing itself - a special container! This is an unexpected call to sort electronic waste responsibly.
In Kaziulionis’ street art piece, the 1800s painting depicting Juliette Récamier, the famous owner of a Parisian salon at the time, is reimagined, depicting the 21st century. During Napoleon’s reign, J. Récamier was exiled from Paris because artists and political figures opposed to Napoleon gathered at her salon. In this new creative interpretation, the salon hostess is surrounded not by the Parisian elite, but by discarded electronic devices, and she herself seems to be calling for help - inviting us to find a corner or some other place for electronic waste.
So, when faced with electronic waste, let’s not panic like Madame J. Récamier, but let’s look for a special container designated for electronic waste. That's the message of this artwork.
