The Mountain Pygmy Possum is Australia’s only hibernating marsupial, known to hibernate up to seven months of the year, curled up in nests 2-4 meters under the snow. During this time they drop their body temperature from 35°C to 2°C! There are fewer than 2,000 critically endangered Mountain Pygmy possums left in the wild. Art by ROA at the Healesville Sanctuary.
