Michel Velt (1985) studied at ABK Minerva in Groningen and after a short time he decided to focus on street art: work that is visible to everyone and that everyone can enjoy. He sees himself more as a baker who bakes cakes. Once one pie is ready, move on to the next. He is strongly nfluenced by his idol, the graphic artist M.C. Escher, Jugendstil and street art. His work can be found from New York to Bali. Michel Velt works in a very realistic style, also called photorealism or hyperrealism. All parts are meticulously worked out. The background of the paintings often consists of a number of geometric shapes such as multi-pointed stars, impossible square and triangular constructions that come straight from Escher's work. Due to the choice of color, blues and grays in varied light and dark shades, each work - foreground and background - forms a whole. The works are entirely based on a single sketch made with spray paint. The aim of the work is to let the viewer enjoy beautiful paintings.
In Stadskanaal the artist painted a portrait of an artist friend. When you swipe you can see that he once more combined feminine beauty with birds, just like on the huge mural he made earlier on the side of the Renne flat. For this wall on Europalaan, Michel had not thought of this beforehand. The rooks flying around in the neighborhood gave him the idea.
