The mural was created by Sentycko ART, an urban artist active in Pola de Siero. His work often reinterprets classical masterpieces through contemporary, humorous, or ironic narratives. His signature appears on the right side of the artwork.

Title

There is no officially published title, but the piece is commonly referred to by the text integrated into the mural: “Benvenuta Venus”. The phrase welcomes a modern version of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, now reimagined as a traveler arriving in Pola de Siero.

Approximate Date of Creation

Based on the artist’s series of interventions and local documentation, this mural was created around 2022–2023, during an active period of urban art installations in the town by Sentycko ART.

Description of the mural

The mural depicts a contemporary reinterpretation of Botticelli’s Venus, who appears carrying a tote bag with the text “Il dolce far niente” and holding a tourist brochure titled Pola de Siero. At her feet lies a suitcase full of travel stickers. Next to her stands a signpost showing distances to major world museums such as MoMA, the Louvre, Prado, Tate Modern, and others, humorously placing Pola de Siero as a new cultural “epicenter.”

The artwork blends classical iconography with modern tourism references, playing with the idea of Venus arriving as a visitor to the town. The mural’s intentionally weathered, collage-like aesthetic reinforces its street-art identity.

Descripción del mural

El mural representa una reinterpretación contemporánea del famoso cuadro El nacimiento de Venus de Botticelli. Aquí, Venus aparece sosteniendo una bolsa con el texto “Il dolce far niente” y un folleto turístico de Pola de Siero. A sus pies hay una maleta cubierta de pegatinas de viaje.

A su derecha se encuentra un poste con señales que indican la distancia a algunos de los museos más importantes del mundo, como el MoMA, el Louvre, el Prado o el Tate Modern, situando humorísticamente a Pola de Siero como un nuevo punto de referencia cultural.

La obra mezcla iconografía clásica con referencias al turismo actual y utiliza una estética de collage envejecido característica del arte urbano.
