Manuel Gutiérrez / La Bodega

Description

Immerse yourself in the living creation of the mural “Manuel Gutiérrez”, designed by the talented artist from Burgos, Christian Sasa, which has become an artistic gem in the heart of Santa Catalina neighbourhood. Local residents had the privilege of witnessing every brushstroke, every detail that brought this unique work to life.

On Hernán Cortés Street, the magic of spray paint unfolded several metres above the ground, creating a spectacle that caught everyone’s attention. Small groups gathered spontaneously, and the verdict was unanimous: “Impressive.” The mural portrays Manuel Gutiérrez wearing a traditional Castilian beret, holding a wine pitcher, a walking stick and a cigar in one hand, and a knife for cutting cheese, a loaf of bread and some chorizo in the other.

What truly captivates viewers are Manolo’s eyes, reflecting a moving life story that leaves a strong impression on everyone who sees them. Christian Sasa, a master of hyperrealist muralism, has managed to capture Manuel’s essence in a way that left neighbours speechless: “It’s beautiful!”, they exclaimed.

The collaboration between artist and subject came about by chance in Los Arcos bar, where Christian saw in Manuel the perfect fit for his artistic vision. That is how the idea for this mural was born — a piece that captures the spirit of a typical Aranda mid-morning meal, with such characteristic elements as wine and the cellar.

Manuel, grateful and surprised to see himself portrayed so faithfully, described the experience as looking into a mirror that made him look younger. This mural pays tribute to the tradition of gathering for food in the local wine cellars, and stands as the eleventh artistic treasure to adorn the neighbourhood.
