The Wizard of Oz Mural

Description

This mural was proposed by Professor Francisco Zurian, coordinator of the Master’s in LGBTIQ+ Studies, and was created by Professor Paco Reyes. It is the sixteenth mural he has painted using the graffiti technique in the Faculty. Located on the fourth floor of the main building, it is the 23rd piece to adorn our walls.

This time, the mural is dedicated to the film 'The Wizard of Oz', released in the U.S. in 1939 (it did not reach Spain until 1945 due to the Civil War and delays in dubbing). The film is based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 book, 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'. The mural is based on a film frame that was also used as one of the original promotional posters, featuring nearly all the movie's iconic elements: Dorothy and her ruby slippers, the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, the yellow brick road, and the rainbow (which would later be adopted as a symbol by the LGBTI community).
