Vicio

Zezão began in the 1990s to occupy spaces in the city of São Paulo with his graffiti. Inspired and motivated by the art of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Zezão felt reinforced in the impulse to abandon traditional paths towards his art and follow new paths. He started working on the walls of sewage channels and rainwater galleries, among waste accumulated in abandoned houses, in deserted alleys and in gaps under viaducts, attracting attention to unusual urban landscapes, which many people do not want to see or know about.

The Vício signature is reminiscent of bubbling water flowing with pressure on its background, like from a faucet. But even in this case it is not clear whether water is actually intended to be depicted or whether it is just an aesthetic borrowing. In any case, there is a strong connection – Zezão is passionate about water, as an activist for the Water is Life project. www.waterislife.com
