Bajando el océano

Description

Puche has created a mural in Torremolinos that captures the essence of its history and evolution. Spanning over  one hundred square meters , the artwork stands as a symbol of the transformation of the town center and the desire to recapture the golden spirit of this iconic destination.
This mural, located on the facade of the former  Buen Día Apartments , now renovated as  Buendía Suites , is part of an initiative to visually revitalize the city center.
For  Puche , intervening in urban spaces is similar to decorating a living room. “City centers are like a living room.  Puche created a mural in Torremolinos  with the intention of bringing warmth and beauty, as if we were hanging a painting on the main wall of the house,” the artist explains.
The challenge was considerable: more than  30 liters of special paint  were needed to cover the  15-meter height  and  7.5-meter width  of the artwork. Furthermore, the roughness of the wall, with its dense gravel, posed an additional challenge for the artist, who is accustomed to working on more uniform surfaces.
The mural's design was not chosen at random.  Puche created a mural in Torremolinos inspired by the city's tourism slogan, "The Origin of Paradise," which evokes the town's connection to its historical past and its Mediterranean essence.
To achieve this, the artist has imagined an underwater architecture, reminiscent of the region's Roman origins. The central element of the work is a large Roman-style arch, which visually allows the sea to flow through the composition. On either side, two medallions reinforce the narrative: one depicting the sea itself and the other the Castle of Santa Clara, where Salvador Dalí and Gala stayed in 1930, staging one of the first documented topless encounters in Spanish history.
The mural also nods to a fundamental aspect of the local identity: the "relaxed lifestyle". For decades, Torremolinos has been synonymous with freedom and a carefree way of life, even in times of restrictions.
The composition depicts two children diving, a clear message about the interaction between the city and nature. For Puche, relaxation is not just about being on the beach, but about the freedom to immerse oneself in an environment that inspires and welcomes.
