This mural brought new life to a neglected, grey wall that once seemed entirely devoid of spirit — transforming it into a small visual story that now captures the attention of nearly every passerby on Švitrigailos Street.
At the heart of the composition stands the crossing attendant — depicted almost like a goddess, holding what appears to be a royal scepter, though it is merely a signal reflector used to guide movement and warn of oncoming trains. In the background, stylized figures of working men appear, their poses exaggerated to highlight the weight and rhythm of physical labor.
To heighten the drama, I used bold tones of red, blue, and earthy brown. “Epic of the Railway” blends cartoon and graffiti styles in a contemporary way, while also borrowing from the classical traditions of painting — where the human figure is idealized, the action dramatized, and certain details are deliberately emphasized and elevated in importance.
This mural is part of the “Open Gallery” project.
