Artwork created for Blind Walls Gallery in 2023

The premise of this 37-meter-high mural is "View on the Vuchtpolder". Looking at the military past and the natural area of today, water is one of the most important elements in the nearby polder.

During the Eighty Years' War, the Vuchtpolder was strategically flooded, preventing soldiers from crossing the area. This tactic, also called inundation, is now also used to control certain weeds.

The weed called 'cirsium dissectum' which in Dutch literally means 'Spanish rider' is depicted underwater and refers to the Spanish soldiers who could not make the crossing towards Breda. A woman is standing in the water, looking out over the polder, just like the soldiers did back then.

The woman reaches above the water and, like the soldiers before, she looks out over the polder.

The water in this mural represents reflection and purity. The reflection in the water refers to today's world, where we pretend to be different (and more beautiful) than we are on social media.

Super A is Stefan Thelen's anti- superhero identity. Stefan uses traditional painting techniques and a knack for design to create compositions that manipulate familiar iconography into mind-bending and inquisitive pieces. The murals of Super A are often metaphoric scenarios rendered with hyperrealism. Fairy tale characters are a recurring subject in the work of artist Super A.
