In het levendige Vinkt, deelgemeente van Deinze, verscheen de afgelopen dagen een indrukwekkende muurschildering. Een avontuurlijke kat, genaamd Oscar, verfraait het uitzicht op de kruising van de Schoolstraat en de Aarseleweg. Het kleurrijke kunstwerk is een realisatie van streetart-collectief Treepack en de artiest Alain Welter. In samenspraak met de bewoners van het huis, Geert en Yves, werd er gekozen om op een ludieke wijze een link te leggen naar hun reisorganisatie.  

Geert, bewoner achter de muurschildering, zag in zijn zijgevel het ideale canvas voor een opmerkelijke kunstwerk. Na een brainstromsessie met Treepack werd er gekozen voor de speelse kunstenaar Alain Welter. Deze wist de visie van Metgeertopreis, te vertalen in een humoristische vertoning van de unieke reizen die Geert aanbiedt. Zo kwam de vrolijke figuur Oscar tot leven.

Oscar woont samen in de Schoolstraat met zijn baasjes Geert en Yves, en met zijn twee broers: Cyriel, de muizenvanger, en Charlie, de huiskat. Maar Oscar is niet veel thuis. Hij reist bijna het hele jaar door, zowel in binnen- als buitenland. Na veel oefenen is Oscar klaar voor zijn grote tocht. Op zijn rug draagt hij een opgerolde slaapmat, een tas met warme kleren en een kleine tent. 

"Toen we het idee hadden om een mural op de 90m² grote zijgevel aan te brengen, leek ons de praktische kant heel lastig. Uiteindelijk vonden we in Treepack de ideale partner die alles regelt en ons, als opdrachtgever, ontzorgt." zegt Geert Van de Voorde, zaakvoerder Met Geert Op Reis. "Treepack ging aan de slag met onze ideeën en doelstellingen. Toen het eerste ontwerp niet echt ons ding was stelden zij prompt voor om met een andere artiest aan de slag te gaan. En dat ontwerp was direct wat we beoogden. We waarderen ten zeerste dat ze niets pushen, uitstekende artiesten contracteren en hun afspraken perfect nakomen. Ze hebben niet alleen onze verwachtingen overtroffen maar ook die van de inwoners van ons dorp."

Met Geert Op Reis zorgt voor de begeleiding van stedentrips, wandel- en fietsvakanties. De bekendste wandelvakantie is deze naar Santiago de Compostela, vandaar dat Oscar de Santiagoschelp draagt.

In the lively Vinkt, a sub-municipality of Deinze, an impressive mural appeared in the past few days. An adventurous cat, named Oscar, beautifies the view at the intersection of Schoolstraat and Aarseleweg. The colorful artwork is a creation of street art collective Treepack and artist Alain Welter. In consultation with the residents of the house, Geert and Yves, it was decided to create a playful link to their travel organization.

Geert, the resident behind the mural, saw the ideal canvas for a remarkable work of art in his side wall. After a brainstorming session with Treepack, the playful artist Alain Welter was chosen. He was able to translate the vision of Metgeertopreis into a humorous display of the unique trips that Geert offers. This is how the cheerful figure of Oscar came to life.

Oscar lives in Schoolstraat with his owners Geert and Yves, and with his two brothers: Cyriel, the mouse catcher, and Charlie, the house cat. But Oscar is not home much. He travels almost all year round, both at home and abroad. After a lot of practice, Oscar is ready for his big trip. On his back he carries a rolled up sleeping mat, a bag with warm clothes and a small tent.

"When we had the idea to apply a mural to the 90m² side wall, the practical side seemed very difficult to us. In the end, we found the ideal partner in Treepack who arranges everything and takes care of us, as the client," says Geert Van de Voorde, manager of Met Geert Op Reis. "Treepack got to work with our ideas and objectives. When the first design was not really our thing, they promptly suggested working with another artist. And that design was immediately what we had in mind. We really appreciate that they do not push anything, contract excellent artists and keep their agreements perfectly. They have not only exceeded our expectations but also those of the residents of our village."

Met Geert Op Reis provides guidance for city trips, walking and cycling holidays. The most famous walking holiday is the one to Santiago de Compostela, which is why Oscar wears the Santiago shell.
