COMMUNITY UPDATE: TheStreetArtDirectory.com says it has been removed (03/08/2023)

Created during the ARDPOP‑UP Festival* in Oslo, a historic, small‑scale street art and graffiti event held from 1 to 4 November 2012, organised by All Rights Destroyed (ARD) and dot dot dot, this monochrome mural by Phlegm once stood as a quiet but unmistakable landmark in the city’s urban landscape.

Painted during Oslo’s first proper snowfall of the year, the work was shaped by the weather as much as by the artist’s hand. Phlegm recalls his lift constantly filling with snow, and the surreal camaraderie among the participating artists, including a Brazilian painter experiencing snow for the very first time, without even a proper winter coat. These small, human moments became part of the mural’s DNA.

True to Phlegm’s philosophy, the piece was never intended as a permanent fixture. He views murals as temporary gestures , “an alternative to a coat of paint”, meant to live their natural lifespan until the wall needs renewal. While the mural became a familiar sight for locals, especially students and creatives frequenting the nearby art school and art shop, the artist himself sees his work as energy expressed in the moment rather than objects to be preserved.

The mural has since disappeared, flagged by several Street Art Cities users through the platform’s social features. Its absence marks the end of its physical presence, but not its impact. For many, it remains tied to personal memories and daily routines, a visual anchor in a specific time and place.

Ephemeral by design, the work now lives on through documentation, community recollection, and the evolving timeline of Oslo’s street art history.
