Räuberleiter

In rusty red and complementary green, the mural “Räuberleiter” by CZOLK comes to life – at the very same spot in Mannheim’s Jungbusch district where the artist had already been active in 2019. As with his first work “Fenster zum Hof” (Window to the Courtyard), he draws on the colors and diversity of the neighborhood.

Exactly five years have passed since freelance artist Yannik Czolk created his first large-scale mural for STADT.WAND.KUNST.

In September 2024, CZOLK returned to the place of his creation – with nostalgic anticipation, but also carrying a new motif. “Fenster zum Hof” holds a special meaning for the artist: “It was my starting point for large-format murals in public space. That’s why it means a lot to me to be able to work here again – it feels like coming full circle,” says CZOLK.

However, the new mural was never intended to be a remake of “Fenster zum Hof”, but rather a demonstration of the artist’s versatility. “My style is fluid; I don’t commit myself to a single direction. Different walls call for different images,” he explains. Unlike “Fenster zum Hof”, the new work features no comic-style outlines or graphic novel-like hatching. Instead, “Räuberleiter” captivates with soft color gradients and an impressive interplay of light and shadow.
