Maja Šubic worked on an important fresco in the centre of Obervellach, which highlights the history and craft of shoemaking. In collaboration with Irena Romih and Jaka Šubic, a work was created that is deeply rooted in local tradition and yet adopts a modern perspective. The right-hand section of the fresco depicts Saints Crispinus and Crispinianus, the patron saints of shoemakers, saddlers and tanners. These figures are depicted with their traditional attributes: Sword, palm and millstone as symbols of their martyrdom, as well as shoes, cobbler's knife, awl and tongs as symbols of their craft.
The centre section of the fresco pays homage to the tools and utensils of the shoemaker's trade. Various instruments are depicted here in vivid detail, emphasising the precision and skill of the trade. The left part of the artwork presents a coat of arms.
The fresco represents an exciting fusion of past and present. It invites the viewer to rediscover the deeply rooted tradition of craftsmanship and to appreciate the connection between historical heritage and modern art. With her masterful technique and innovative approach, Maja Šubic creates a work that is both visually impressive and culturally enriching.
