Description

"The artwork reflects the journey and movement of people on Country. The colours used represent this beautiful Bidjigal country, with blues for the rivers, sea and sky, to the oranges and warm hues of a red sunset, granite land and sandy shores. The middle symbol represents our community, a symbol of people coming together to share stories and knowledge. There is a journey line that travels between our community and two other circle symbols that represent 'place'. I often paint leaves in my artwork to symbolise growth, cleansing and connection to culture through smoking ceremonies (burning of eucalypt leaves). The handprints are for the history and stories that belong to this place long before the roads, houses and concrete. The background pattern reflects the land and ongoing responsibility we all have for caring for Country and listening to what it needs. Connection to Country is an important part of our culture and should be celebrated and shared by everyone who calls this land home. Wherever you find yourself on this journey ... You are Here."
