Matth Velvet started painting walls in the early 2000s in western France. The maritime and industrial world he encountered there influenced his early artistic research. A passionate designer, he naturally turns to the applied arts, in parallel with his assiduous practice of graffiti. He gradually abandoned aerosol paint for acrylic and oil paint, which gave him more control over the colors and gave his images a look closer to his expectations, both on the wall and in the studio.
In August 2023 Matth Velvet was responsible for painting the wall of via Carlo Bini 20. The mural is dedicated to the Orlando construction site and became part of the urban redevelopment project of the neighborhood. 2002 was the year in which the long, and often troubled, story of the historic Orlando shipyard came to an end, which gave impetus and prestige to Italian naval construction and meant a lot for the city of Livorno and for the Borgo district. The Orlando Shipyard was not only the demonstration of the technological capacity and entrepreneurial ability of the Orlando family, such as to place it on the same level as the most famous English shipyards, founded on qualified workers, but also the representation of the character of the inhabitants of the Borgo neighborhood, formed from the experiences gained on the construction site, including that sense of solidarity that animated its workers.
