The mural proposes a seascape where reality and fantasy merge, resulting in an unexpected fishing scene. With an art nouveau gesture, a female hand is depicted in the act of fishing. Around the bait, symbolically represented by a wooden heart, five fish gather. deliberately plays on color contrasts, emphasizing intense reds and shades of greens and blues. The flatness of the background color, spread without excess of shadows, of oriental and Art Nouveau memory, is contrasted by the naturalistic rendering of the rope-line, the heart-bait
almost overhanging the plane, brilliant, made alive by realistic colors.
On the left side of the wall, at the top, an Argentine Fish (Argentina Sphyraena) is repurposed; followed by a Mackerel (Scomber Scombrus and a Viperous Trachinus (Trachinus Vipera). On the right side, below the hand, is a Pierfish or Potassole (Micromesistius Poutassou) and finally, a Seabream (Pagellus Centrodontus). Evident, the intention to emphasize the typical marine fauna of the Adriatic Sea and the area of the city of Caorle (VE). The Arzentin, the Ganzariol, the Varagnola, the Molo da parangal and the Albaro bastardo are the Venetian names used for these fish that, in this context, are meant to be not only a tribute to the place, understood in a strictly geographical sense, but also a symbol of tradition. A tradition, that of fishing, which is also maintained through great respect for the ecosystem, nature, and the rhythms of life of the animals. And it is in this sense that the choice of having, in a central position, a heart at the same time hook and bait should be read and understood.
A heart delicately thrown into the sea,
made of wood and tied to a rope, both materials that in tradition have
characterized, and still characterize, this activity. A tribute to Fishing done with the Heart.
