Jan Stel (Simbl, Purmerend) and Arjan Jansen (Yorkone, Hoorn) a creative duo with deep roots in the Dutch graffiti scene. Both artists have earned their stripes over the years, and now they’re on a mission to bring graffiti and street art out of the shadows. “It’s their time to shine,” they say.
For many people, street art - and especially graffiti - still carries a bad reputation. “It’s often seen as messy scribbles in dark tunnels,” the artists explain. But many who started that way have evolved into mature creators, producing original, high-quality, and deeply expressive works of art.
Jan and Arjan’s collaborations often focus on positive themes, where Jan’s ultra-realistic imagery blends seamlessly with Arjan’s bold, abstract-typographic lettering. Together, their work radiates both energy and meaning.
Their goal is simple: to share their art with a broader audience. “The beauty of street art is that it lives in public spaces,”they say. “It’s not locked away in a museum or private collection, it’s there for everyone to enjoy.”
With support from the municipality of Purmerend, the duo has been granted permission to paint the outer wall of the Spurd sports hall at Zuivelpad 1.
The project is entirely self-funded, driven by their passion to make art more accessible. They hope their initiative will inspire municipalities, housing corporations, and businesses alike to bring more art into public spaces, and to see the power of creativity in shaping our shared environment.
