In 2021, going into 2022, Lukas Kasper began a six-month full-time mural artist contract with Wodonga City Council. During this time, he was responsible for building each project from the ground up, handling all aspects including paperwork, permits, designs, confirmations, paint sourcing, and the painting process itself. This role not only involved creating murals but also facilitating large-scale public art projects. One of the standout pieces completed during this period was Pond Pals, which became one of the ten murals in town.
The concept for this mural was inspired by Les Stone Park, with the understanding that the primary viewers of the mural would be older members of the community. With this in mind, Lukas took a more subtle approach to color, drawing inspiration from the park’s waterways, using shades of browns, creams, and blues. The mural featured hyper-realistic animals that were photographed directly from the park itself, creating a connection between the artwork and its natural surroundings.
One of the rewarding aspects of public projects like this is the opportunity to meet the people who will soon see the artwork as a part of their daily lives. Lukas ensures that every project, from the smallest feather to the faintest fade, is executed with care and precision to make sure it resonates with the community.
