Residents of the Bloemenbuurt in The Hague were fed up with the illegal mess at the (large) distribution station in their street and suggested painting the object themselves. It turned out that some poets lived in the area; their poems formed the basis for the paintings. “By combining the poems with soft illustrations, I wanted to convey a fairytale feeling. Of course, the poems had to remain legible and not fade into the background, and that was quite a challenge on the coarse brick structure,” says Ringo. The painting is a combination of freehand illustrations and texts applied by means of large templates.
