Located in the Léo Lagrange sports complex, at Porte de Charenton in the 12th arrondissement, this playground is one of the most played-on courts in Paris.
A few months before my intervention, the duo of artists and sign painters halfstudiosigns created a first mural on the neighboring court.
In resonance with their work, I developed a mural with a deliberately minimalist approach, allowing color and the court’s game lines to take center stage.
“Léo” and “Chacha” are the two names most commonly used by players to refer to these playgrounds. “Chacha,” short for Porte de Charenton, is used by the older generation — the pillars of the basketball community. “Léo,” referring of course to Léo Lagrange, is more often used by the younger players, newly arrived on the courts.
Painting these two names was therefore a way to highlight two generations of players, united within the same community.
