A unique meeting between two cultures Aboriginal Australian and a Colombian, who bring their heritage together in a beautiful fushion.

When two cultures come together, they gather together at the meeting place to sit together, share stories, learn from each other. When we do this, we can come together with love.

This fish is a significant animal for Scott Rathman (aka Rusted Tin), symbolising strong feelings of community yet elements of mystery, as you need to take the time to explore the depths of a person’s being to truly understand them, rather than only seeing what is on the surface.

Katherine Gailer (aka Katira) designed a mythical creature combining a hybrid of human and fish. Hybrids are common expressions in Latin American visual imagery as a way to embody spirits of nature and tell stories about their ancestors.

This water spirit represents her identity as an immigrant - as it represents the mother river “Madre Río”, and the mother sea “Madre Mar” - that always safeguard her connection with Colombia while travelling abroad.
Other elements such flowers, patterns and a serpent (another strong symbol of spiritual strength and connection) are floating towards the meeting place where the two cultures can pay their respects.
