UN SDG 15 focuses on the sustainable management of forests, while preventing and reversing land and natural habitat degradation, combating desertification, and halting biodiversity loss.
Created from wild olive branches, leaves, and olives, the portrait symbolises our deep connection with nature. It reflects how we are intertwined within its delicate ecosystems and reminds us that we should never consider ourselves a separate entity.
The wild olive tree, the Zambujal, was chosen for its powerful symbolism of peace and survival, which also reflects the history and name of the neighbourhood itself. Olive trees can live for hundreds of years and are an exceptionally resilient species, making them an ideal choice for reforestation.
Created for Zambujal360, the first urban art initiative dedicated to addressing and promoting all 17 UN SDGs worldwide.
