“Eros & Psyche” is a striking large‑scale mural created by Greek artist insane51 for Montreal’s 2019 Mural Festival. Designed to be viewed with 3D glasses, the artwork uses layered red and blue imagery to reveal two versions of the same woman. In cool blue tones, the viewer sees her outer form, while vivid red lines expose her skeleton, brain, and two arrows piercing her body. The dual‑color technique creates an optical illusion that shifts depending on how the viewer looks at it.
The mural’s title references the Greek myth of Eros and Psyche. Psyche, a mortal princess famed for her extraordinary beauty, becomes the beloved of Eros, the god of love—known as Cupid in Roman mythology—who famously shoots arrows to inspire desire. Their story weaves through prophecy, trials, betrayal, and longing, but ultimately ends in reconciliation. Psyche is granted immortality, and the couple’s union becomes a symbol of love’s endurance.
